Gun Club meeting - Gun Range, 4pm

Parker walks onto the range, her .Sig and Glock in their locked case, and makes sure everything is ready. She posts the following two notices, to be read by everyone who wants to participate:

Ten Commandments of Firearms Safety

1. Treat every gun with the respect due a loaded gun.
2. Watch that muzzle! Be able to control the direction of the muzzle even if you should stumble.
3. Be sure barrel and action are clear of obstructions and that you have only ammunition of the proper size for the gun you are carrying.
4. Be sure of your target before you pull the trigger; know identifying features of the game you hunt. Never shoot at a sound or move­ment.
5. Unload guns when not in use. Take down or have act­ions open; guns should be carried in cases to the shoot­ing area.
6. Never point a gun at anything you do not want to shoot; avoid all horse­play with a firearm.
7. Never climb a fence or tree or jump a ditch with a loaded gun; never pull a gun toward you by the muzzle.
8. Never shoot a bullet at a flat, hard sur­face or water; at tar­get practices be sure your backstop is adequate.
9. Store guns and ammunition sep­ar­ately beyond the reach of children and careless adults.
10. Avoid alcoholic bev­er­ages before or during shooting.

She puts on her hearing protection, puts up a Dracula target, and starts shooting.

Parker will be back in 3-4 hours to interact with anyone who wants to show up. Don't bother NPC'ing her. Have fun!

"Yo," Cameron greets Parker as he enters the shooting range and looks around to find that he's the first one there.

Parker removes her ear muffs and nods to him. "Hey. Got a weapon?"

"Nope," he shakes his head, "not one that in one piece anyway."

"Still working on Winona, hunh?" She shakes her head. "There's target pistols on the wall there, do you know how to use them?"

"I can handle a 9mm, if they're like that..." Cameron replied as he checked out the guns

"Yes, that's one of the standards. Ear muffs on the wall, pick your own target sheet, and if you want to sign up for the pin shooting, we'll start that in an hour."

"I think I'll just shoot at my own pace for a while," Cameron replies as he gets what he needs. "Oh, by the way, who did you end up getting that powerpack from?"

Parker smirks, and puts her earmuffs back on. "Extra-dimensional contacts. Not sure I could do it twice! But maybe you can get Carter to reverse-engineer something, or Professor MacGyver!" she yells, sights down the barrel of the gun, and shoots.

"No, I wanted to know if you got it from Vala and if it could be dodgy." Cameron replies as he moves to the shooting lane beside her.

"Nope! I got dropped in Cheyenne Mountain, but there was a detour on the way."

*Bang!*

"Vala said she could get something, but I didn't have a chance to follow up on that!"

"No idea if it's dodgy or not."

"Alright then," he's relieved that at least he won't have to deal with Vala if it turns out it's the pack that's dodgy.

He gets his target into the lane and then starts shooting. He might not be an expert, but he seems to get fairly decent hits.

"Hey," says Janet, fresh from a walk outside and talking to Liz in the park.

OOC: Ack! Must leave work and head home now. Cam, Parker, feel free to NPC Janet if you want. (I should actually just make a list of people who can NPC Janet if I'm not online and she's needed and post it in my userinfo, shouldn't I? Because "the usual suspects" is a little too vague.)

"Yo," Cameron repeats but less enthusiastic as usually.

"I'm all free and single and I'm not drunk." Cameron replies and wonders if anyone listens to the radio because for once it would be good to not have to repeat this.

Archie takes a spot next to Cameron, puts up a target of a naval captain in French uniform, and gives Cameron an encouraging smile before he fires. It's slow going for him; after every two shots, he has to stop and reload.

Cameron gets distracted and watches Archie reload and admires his grace and manliness. "Wow, that looks complicated."

Archie laughs. "I enjoy having the luxury. It's impossible to do this during a fight."

He fires again, swabs the pistol's barrel out with the ramrod wrapped in a wet cloth until it cools, then measures out a new capful of powder. He pours this down the barrel of the pistol, then tamps a piece of round pistol shot down after it. Carefully pointing the gun away from himself and anyone else on the range, he rotates the flint striker to half-cock, loads the flashpan with priming powder and closes it, then cocks the hammer all the way back. He repeats this process with the second pistol, then raises one of them and fires again.

His aim isn't terribly good, though it isn't so much his fault as it is the technology of his time; these flintlock pistols are smoothbore, and round shot tends to be irregular. Still, he gets at least half the shots reasonably on target.

"Wow," Cameron blinks. It looks like a whole lot of a work, but it seems interesting enough. "Aren't those dangerous too, though? I heard they tend to be able to blow up."

Archie nods. "Yes, anything involving powder like this runs that risk." He grins. "You should see the gunnery crews at the ship's cannon, though. Now that's dangerous."

He raises the second pistol and fires, grinning.

"But you prefer it above our guns?" Cameron asks and wonders if it's because Archie likes foreplay so much.

"Well." Archie starts cleaning his pistols and packing them away. "Once you get used to the actions, I suppose there's a poetry in it. But they certainly don't hold a candle to the range and accuracy of your modern guns."

That's right. Don't ever underestimate the importance of handling a ramrod lovingly, and priming your weapon well.

Parker's fingers are looking itchy. "Do you *want* to try with our newer weapons? Or are you trying to be perfectly proficient for your time? I could get you another weapon from the wall...."

Archie nods. "Thank you, I would. I don't want to get rusty, though, so I think perhaps I'll try another couple of rounds with these first."

Parker nods, watches a few more rounds, admits that Archie is far, far more patient than she is, and moves on.
