Gun Club meeting - Gun Range, 4pm

Parker walks onto the range, her .Sig and Glock in their locked case, and makes sure everything is ready. She posts the following two notices, to be read by everyone who wants to participate:

Ten Commandments of Firearms Safety

1. Treat every gun with the respect due a loaded gun.
2. Watch that muzzle! Be able to control the direction of the muzzle even if you should stumble.
3. Be sure barrel and action are clear of obstructions and that you have only ammunition of the proper size for the gun you are carrying.
4. Be sure of your target before you pull the trigger; know identifying features of the game you hunt. Never shoot at a sound or move­ment.
5. Unload guns when not in use. Take down or have act­ions open; guns should be carried in cases to the shoot­ing area.
6. Never point a gun at anything you do not want to shoot; avoid all horse­play with a firearm.
7. Never climb a fence or tree or jump a ditch with a loaded gun; never pull a gun toward you by the muzzle.
8. Never shoot a bullet at a flat, hard sur­face or water; at tar­get practices be sure your backstop is adequate.
9. Store guns and ammunition sep­ar­ately beyond the reach of children and careless adults.
10. Avoid alcoholic bev­er­ages before or during shooting.

She puts on her hearing protection, puts up a Dracula target, and starts shooting.

Parker will be back in 3-4 hours to interact with anyone who wants to show up. Don't bother NPC'ing her. Have fun!

"I wish I could. Perhaps I could cultivate a mystical aura, build myself up a reputation as a marksman of supernatural skill." He grins evilly. "But then what would I do when I ran out of ammunition?"

"Come back her and restock?" Cameron replied in between shots.

"Hmm. Possible. Getting here was rather hectic, though. I don't know that I'd want to go through that again."

Archie takes one of the practice weapons, a .38mm similar to the one he'd used over Zombie Weekend, and returns to his lane. His stance is still a little bit off, and the kickback affects him more than it would a more experienced marksman, but there's a definite fierce joy in his eyes as he empties a round into the target in less time than it takes to load one of his flintlocks.

Only being the gentleman you all seem to think I am, else I wouldn't ask. *primes Cam's pistol*

"Was it that bad?" Cameron asks as he watches Archie shoot. "Nice shooting."

Being a gentleman doesn't mean you can't go alpha. *admires and lusts after Archie's priming skills*

"Thank you. Not as good as Kara or Parker, perhaps." Archie reloads -- oddly, it's harder for him than the complicated process of reloading his own pistols -- and tries again. "These are so much more accurate, and I suppose it helps that I've become used to the extra effort of trying to shoot straight with mine."

In front of everyone? My my, how naughty. *demonstrates the process again, since getting it right helps reduce the chance of a misfire*

"They're just freakishly good," Cameron remarks, looking over at the both of them.

"Yes," agrees Archie. "It's almost terrifying. If only we could teach our marines to shoot that well."

His eyes go out of focus for a few moments as he imagines what could happen if the ship's cannons could be that accurate.

Some would say the worst. *wicked smile* Now, measuring the powder accurately is important, so you can get the maximum explosive potential out of your weapon.

"In all honesty, I'd be perfectly happy with the command of a ship of the line," Archie chuckles.

"It's certainly quite a step up from commanding a single gunnery crew, which is all I can boast at the moment. I haven't even been given charge of a prize crew."

But the anticipation is half the fun!

"Yes, but at my age I should be at least a lieutenant by now. Most midshipmen start before the mast at the age of twelve or thirteen." Frustrated, Archie empties another clip into his target.

"Are you serious about Western Europe, Kennedy?" Parker asks, pushing the button to bring her target in. It is, of course, riddled with holes. "Because if so, I want to order my Belgian chocolates now."

Archie bursts out laughing. "Of course not. Do I look like the despotic type? I wouldn't say no to a country estate, though."

Parker shrugs, still hopeful on the chocolate. "It's good to have goals.... Any questions on the guns we're using here?"

"Next week, perhaps, if I try something different. I think I'm beginning to be comfortable with this one," says Archie, indicating the .38. "I know how to take the safety off now, which is more than I did during Zombie Weekend!"
