Arts & Crafts, [Period 1, 5-11]

"Good morning," Steve said chipperly. "I hope everyone is wide awake and ready to get to work." He was far too enthusiastic for first thing on a Monday morning during summer break, really. It was his way. "Since this is summer camp, this is Arts and Crafts, because, well, it's traditional and I like doing it. Today we're going to get started with a gremlin in a jar because that's really the only appropriate place for a gremlin, in a jar where it can't bite you. Your instruction sheets and all the materials you'll need are on the tables, though in lieu of rocks or dirt for the gremlin's base I've provided glitter. It seems like more fun. So, let's get started, and while we're working if everyone could introduce themselves and tell me where and when they're from, that would be great. If you have any problems with the project or questions I'm glad to help in any way I can."

"It's Ino," she said, trying to figure how she'd wound up in this class. Seriously, what? "I'm from Konohagakure no Sato, Konoha for short, and it's in a world that's a lot like Feudal Japan but with television, radio, and way more ninja."

"Hi, I'm Angela Montenegro," she started, looking far too awake for this time on a Monday morning. Scary. "I'm from... well, all over, actually. But most recently DC, 1995."

"I am Éowyn," she said. "I come from Rohan, where it's the Third Age." By now, she was used to how different that sounded from the others, but she didn't mind.

"Jennifer Walters, I'm from Los Angeles, but it was 1972 when I left this weekend," she introduced. "I'm not sure if that's complicated or not."

"Hi!" Zack paused for a moment, almost as though he was expecting the class to say 'hi' back to him. He knew better, really, but it was always worth a shot. "I'm Zack Fair! And I'm from a different world, I guess? I grew up in a small town called Gongaga, but I started working out of Midgar a little while ago, which is the big city there. And the year on my world when I left was 2000, but I guess that doesn't make much of a difference either, considering this is, uh, Earth?"

It was named after dirt. He was never going to get over that. Possibly ever.

Angela was one of those gremlin bite virgins, so at this point she thought this was kind of cute, and snagged plenty of glitter (you could never go wrong with that) and started hunting down an appropriately sized jar.

Éowyn had only heard of gremlins thus far, so her paper gremlin was turning out to be far less menacing than the real thing.

"Omigod, I love your outfit," Claudia squealed.

Claudia had dressed carefully for the first day of workshops, especially since this was one about arts and crafts. The bright teal beret was an absolute must, of course, as were the black leggings underneath an old work shirt of her dad's that had been painted with little blue and green gremlins. The blue, green, and purple slouchy socks over a pair of incredibly pink sneakers were a bit of a departure from her normal stilettos and boots, but she decided it worked here.

She glanced around the room for familiar faces as she painted her gremlin, giving her a pink bow on the top of her head.

Ino sort of stared at the supplies for a long moment, with a bit of a mental whimper, and then got to her feet, and grabbed supplies.

Totally making it the most girly gremlin ever. Which was why pink, yellow, and purple paper (and shiny silver glitter) featured prominently as she winged it since she didn't actually know what a gremlin looked like.

Zack's gremlin looked... Well... It looked more like a snowman with liberal doses of green paint slathered on to it and arms that were entirely too short for its body. Which suited him just fine, really.

It wasn't as though he'd ever actually seen a gremlin. And that was possibly for the best, right?
