Arts & Crafts, [Period 1, 5-11]

"Good morning," Steve said chipperly. "I hope everyone is wide awake and ready to get to work." He was far too enthusiastic for first thing on a Monday morning during summer break, really. It was his way. "Since this is summer camp, this is Arts and Crafts, because, well, it's traditional and I like doing it. Today we're going to get started with a gremlin in a jar because that's really the only appropriate place for a gremlin, in a jar where it can't bite you. Your instruction sheets and all the materials you'll need are on the tables, though in lieu of rocks or dirt for the gremlin's base I've provided glitter. It seems like more fun. So, let's get started, and while we're working if everyone could introduce themselves and tell me where and when they're from, that would be great. If you have any problems with the project or questions I'm glad to help in any way I can."

"I'm Steve Rogers, I'm from New York City, modern day, but I was born in 1917. It's not actually as complicated as it sounds."

Yes, it was.

"It's Ino," she said, trying to figure how she'd wound up in this class. Seriously, what? "I'm from Konohagakure no Sato, Konoha for short, and it's in a world that's a lot like Feudal Japan but with television, radio, and way more ninja."

"More ninja, huh?"

"Yes," she said, raising her chin. "Better ninja too."

She was super biased here. Ino figured she was allowed to be, all things considered.

"I wouldn't be so sure quantity translates into quality."

"I'm very sorry you seem to have something against ninja," she said, smiling falsely. "But your opinion of my world is going to need more basis than that before you judge it. So sorry!"

She was not.

"I have nothing against ninja," Steve told her. "I've known and counted as friends a few ninjas. And you're correct, I don't know anything about your world, which is why I wasn't judging it. I was merely saying that more doesn't always translate to better. I apologize if I offended you."

She seemed very prickly.

Prickly was a good word for it.

Ino was vaguely mollified. "Okay," she said, "and I just said more ninja 'cause they're kinda one of the main businesses in our world."

"Hi, I'm Angela Montenegro," she started, looking far too awake for this time on a Monday morning. Scary. "I'm from... well, all over, actually. But most recently DC, 1995."

Steve liked the awake ones. "Hi, Angela. Sounds like you're the closest thing to a local I'm likely to get."

"Around here, probably," Angela said laughing a little. "Which is kind of impressive, given I'm all out of my time."

"I am Éowyn," she said. "I come from Rohan, where it's the Third Age." By now, she was used to how different that sounded from the others, but she didn't mind.

"Hello, Éowyn," Steve said. "How are you finding our mixed-up world so far?"

"I quite like it," she said. "I never imagined I could be so content while being away from my family."

"Jennifer Walters, I'm from Los Angeles, but it was 1972 when I left this weekend," she introduced. "I'm not sure if that's complicated or not."

"Excuse me, did you say Jennifer Walters?"

"Yes, sir," Jennifer said. "My dad is the LA County sheriff, if that's where you think you've heard the name."

Huh. But he didn't think She-Hulk was in her fifties, so, "I suspect it's a common enough name."

~~Or there's this whole weird problem of trying to date the Marvel universe by publication date and characters never aging...~~

"Must be," Jennifer said. She smiled. "I'm looking forward to the class, sir."

"Hi!" Zack paused for a moment, almost as though he was expecting the class to say 'hi' back to him. He knew better, really, but it was always worth a shot. "I'm Zack Fair! And I'm from a different world, I guess? I grew up in a small town called Gongaga, but I started working out of Midgar a little while ago, which is the big city there. And the year on my world when I left was 2000, but I guess that doesn't make much of a difference either, considering this is, uh, Earth?"

It was named after dirt. He was never going to get over that. Possibly ever.

"Hi, Zack," Steve said back, grinning at the kid's enthusiasm. "Welcome to Earth, and to my workshop."
