Phys Ed: Week 14, Period 1 (Fri. 4/17)

The floor of the Danger Shop gymnasium was covered with thick, blue mats. To one side, students might notice a bucket of blue rags and a bucket of short, bantos rods with hand guards.

"Today we're playing Capture the Flag," Ronon's booming voice echoed in the empty room. "The goal's to grab the other guy's flag." He paused with a slightly evil smile remembering how his friends back home failed fiercely at this game. "No penalties. Nothing off limits. Once someone grabs the flag a new round starts. After every round, the level of difficulty’s increased. It’s to simulate battle since after every encounter there’s the possibility of injury. Round two's one-handed. Round three's one handed and one-legged. Round four's one handed, one-legged, and one-eyed." Someone always gave up at round four. Something about playing with one eye closed didn't work for most.

"Get your uniform, a flag, a partner, and get going."

Gavin grabbed a stick and waited for a partner. He could make due with hitting people.

"If you're not careful, I'll find a way to send a message to future me and tell him to smack you in the head," Gavin decided.

"He'd have to catch me first," Ben said, stuffing a flag into the elastic of his shorts and picking up a stick. "Ready?"

Gavin did the same and nodded. "Born ready, Skywalker."

Ben figured it would be cheating to use the enhanced speed and agility of the Jedi, but he was still pretty fast on his feet as he aimed his stick at Gavin's wrist.

Gavin yanked his hand out of the way, using the motion to try and take Ben's feet out of him with his stick.

Ben flattened himself against the mats and used that position to try to clip Gavin's ankles.

Clipping is exactly what happened and Gavin hopped onto one foot instinctively, wincing and shaking out his ankle. He hopped backwards to try and get out of Ben's reach though.

Short armed Skywalkers were a blessing.

Ben used the time Gavin was hopping away to get back on his feet. "This isn't that hard."

Claire was going to be standing over here near the wall looking for someone who didn't look like they'd hit too hard.

Priestly's wrist still wasn't 100%, so he wasn't really looking forward to having to tussle with people.

"Hey Claire. Wanna skip the pummeling and do rock, paper, scissors instead?"

Claire looked immensely relieved. "Priestly," she greeted. "God, yes. You're my favorite person in class right now."

"That's because I'm awesome. And, uh, have a sprained wrist." He held out his good hand in a fist. "Plus? Totally easy to play one armed, one legged, and one eyed if we have to."

"I don't even have a sprained anything, I just don't like hitting people with sticks." Claire grimaced. "Weird I have to point that out around here."

She looked at his wrist again. "Is that still from Hurley?"

"Pre-Hurley, actually." Priestly grimaced. "It's getting better, but sprains take forever to heal right. I don't wanna reinjure it just when it's starting to be useful again."

"Ow," Claire commented. "Yeah, not a good day to hit things."

She put her fist behind her back. "Count of three?"

He threw scissors.

Claire threw paper.

"You win," she commented, a slight groan in her voice. "We go best out of four, right?"

"Yeah. Which . . . totally doesn't make sense." Priestly tucked one arm behind his back. "You wanna count?"

Worf didn't look like he wanted to pair up with anyone. In fact he just looked like he wanted to pummel everyone.

Maybe a Klingon in gym class is a bad idea.

Adam grabbed a stick and a flag, and looked around for a partner. This... was going to be interesting, to say the least.

Molly had no idea what hitting someone with a stick accomplished, and began to think about becoming a pacifist.

Then she looked for a partner to hit with a stick.
