Phys Ed: Week 14, Period 1 (Fri. 4/17)

The floor of the Danger Shop gymnasium was covered with thick, blue mats. To one side, students might notice a bucket of blue rags and a bucket of short, bantos rods with hand guards.

"Today we're playing Capture the Flag," Ronon's booming voice echoed in the empty room. "The goal's to grab the other guy's flag." He paused with a slightly evil smile remembering how his friends back home failed fiercely at this game. "No penalties. Nothing off limits. Once someone grabs the flag a new round starts. After every round, the level of difficulty’s increased. It’s to simulate battle since after every encounter there’s the possibility of injury. Round two's one-handed. Round three's one handed and one-legged. Round four's one handed, one-legged, and one-eyed." Someone always gave up at round four. Something about playing with one eye closed didn't work for most.

"Get your uniform, a flag, a partner, and get going."

"It's not," he said, shaking out his ankle. "Nice shot. Going for a weak spot. And making me look like a fool while doing so."

"That wasn't really the intention," Ben said, aiming the stick at Gavin's far shoulder, hoping to get him to twist far enough that Ben could reach the flag.

Gavin, instead, brought the stick up to try and deflect that shot and use his size to push Ben backwards.

Ben gritted his teeth, planted one foot in the mat and used he other to try to kick Gavin in the kneecap.

No rules, right?

That sent him stumbling backwards, wincing and glaring. "Playing rough, aren't we?"

Dammit, that was going to hurt.

Yes. "I'm just doing what the teacher said," Ben said a little sharply. He launched himself forward again, stick heading towards Gavin's chest.

Gavin brought up the stick quickly to avoid taking that shot and swept to the side, swinging the stick at the same time in an attempt to crash it down against the back of Ben's shoulder.

Ben barely had time to wrench himself out of the way, lashing out with his non-stick-holding hand toward Gavin's hair.

Gavin couldn't quite duck out of the way of that so, instead, he tried to stab his stick down against Ben's foot.

Ben let out a pained little hiss as the stick smushed a couple of toes and shifted so his flag was away from Gavin as he tried to recover.

Gavin took a breath, almost asking Ben if he was okay but clamping it down and stepping back so he could recover himself. He didn't do that for very long before trying to jab the stick towards Ben's stomach.

Ben knocked the stick almost violently aside with his own stick. That was a lot like lightsaber combat for him.

It knocked Gavin a little off balance and he had to plant the stick against the ground to keep himself upright.

Ben leaped towards Gavin's flag while Gavin was recovering. He wasn't sure this would work, but that had never exactly been a disincentive for a Skywalker...

Gavin wasn't going to let Ben get his flag that easily so he just dropped to the ground, out of the way of Ben's momentum.

Ben tucked and rolled so he wouldn't land on top of Gavin, then tried to spin around as quickly as possible.

Gavin was already bringing the stick around, trying to catch Ben in the ribs with it, knock the wind out of him and grab the flag.

Ben hit the mats again and reached his stick out to whack Gavin's other ankle.

"Crap," Gavin said, immediately jumping up and down and trying to hop out of Ben's reaching again. He really needed padding for his ankles.

Ben smirked and aimed for Gavin's kneecap this time.
