"I realize some of you may have had to bring your children to class today," Steve said, "and that, yes, this is an unfortunate turn of events. However, I have set up a play area with art supplies--" on a tarp "--over in that corner. I apologize that it is not soundproof, but look at it this way: they'll be some other you's problem soon." "So, it's the last week before your final, and I thought it would be a good idea to have a sort of open forum, where everyone can ask any questions they might have about anything related to the class, and I and your classmates will do our best to answer. You can also use this time to review for the final if you haven't really got any questions. How does that sound?" Steve continued without waiting for an answer, with the relentless, merciless cheer of a man who'd cleaned marshmallow off every single surface in his kitchen recently. "Good. Let's get started."

"You got two mommies?" Lena said, knowing about this. "Kimberly at school has two mommies. And Dylan has two daddies." She looked at the scanner with new respect. "Oooo! Space! Anywhere, anywhere? Can you show me?"

Gene nodded. "I got three Dad's too," he added casually. "Four if you count Rhys. But he's different."

"I can if it's in the scanner's memory."

"Whoooooooooooa." Lena gave Gene a look of total respect and awe, like her Mom gave shiny weapons and her Dad gave a really good sub. "That's the most I've ever heard of. How come Rhys is different?" She beamed at the scanner, then said, "Ooo, Disneyworld! Show ~~meta for~~ Disneyworld!"

"Because he's not one of my genetic donors," Gene explained. "He's married to Mum."

He tapped one of the scanner's controls. "I got something."

The image displaying on the scanner's display wasn't Disneyworld, but rather a small moon that served much the same purpose for a planet on the other side of the galaxy.

"What's a genetic donor? Ooooooo!" And the hands finally come out from behind her back to poke at the screen, enthralled. "Oooo! There's a water-slide! And oh oh oh a bouncy castle!" Lena practically had her nose on the screen. "What's that, what's that?"

"People who got sampled to make me," Gene explained. "Looks like an Adipose. They're made of fat."

"They're so cute!" Lena squealed. "Is it magic? Or an alien? Or alien-magic?" She looked back at Gene again, and blinked. "Are you like a test-tube baby? With lots more test tubes?"

"They're aliens," Gene replied. "I'm what happens when people who should know better don't secure blood samples around active progenation machines."

"Can they see us too on this scanner-thing?" Lena asked, waving to the cute white blobbies that were skipping. Then she turned and blinked at Gene. Blinked again. "I don't know what that means," she admitted.

Gene shook his head. "It doesn't work like that," he said. "It's complicated."

"Oh. Okay!" Lenaa beamed at Gene all the same. "Can it show the White House too?"

Clearly, Gene had all the coolest toys, and was way cool 'cause he had seven mommies and daddies. The White House should be easy!
