Library [03/11]

After yesterday, Sam was seriously hoping for a quiet day in the library. Thanks to the radio, he was expecting the crabs, but the palm trees were a very pleasant surprise, and it took a lot less time than usual for Sam to feel settled in behind the desk.

The great thing about working in a library was that when Sam decided he should know what crabs might eat, he didn't have to go anywhere else to find out.

He did, however, have to make a quick trip to the pet store to get the food, and he left a note on the desk so anyone who came by would know he'd be right back.

Deciding that the crabs could find the fish food if they wanted it, he sprinkled some into a little pile on one of the tables. If nothing else, it would be easy to clean up later.

Sam kept an eye out for Dean when the lunch period started, and so help him if he brought seafood for them to eat today.

Dean came in and plopped himself down in his usual chair. "Dude, you know what's out there today?"

"I saw something in the sky, but I didn't get a close look," Sam said. "I was in kind of a hurry."

Dean grinned. "Harpies."

Sam rolled his eyes at Dean's expression. "And you're here with me and not out there taking care of them?"

"A guy's gotta eat," Dean said defensively. "I'll go out after lunch. Besides," he gave Sam a hopeful look, "thought you might want to tag along after your library shift."

Sam was still a little tired from yesterday, but since Dean hadn't brought up the topic of him getting his ass kicked, Sam realized it was possible he didn't know, and helping Dean with the harpies might keep it that way. "Yeah, I'll tag along," he said. "We can try to outnumber them."

"Great!" Dean said with a grin. "I figure guns would be the best weapon for the situation, at least from what we've got handy."

"That's gonna be messy," Sam said, making a face. "We're probably going to have to keep an eye out for people who are outside and don't know what they're doing."

It seemed that the crabs were smart enough to know their food hadn't just magically appeared, and it wasn't long before two of them were on the desk, eating more from another pile Sam made for them.

Peter came into the library quick, amazingly not spilling a drop of the coffee. "You are so lucky you have me."

"I'm well aware of that," Sam said, wondering about which of the hundreds of reasons Peter was thinking, before he noticed what he was carrying. "Tell me you didn't go into town for the coffee."

"The visual of me holding coffee doesn't make that clear?" Peter asked.

Sam came around the counter and went right to Peter's side. "Are you okay?"

"I think braving harpies for coffee and donuts gets me a kiss first," Peter said.

Sam gave Peter a look, but gave him his kiss as well. "Now are you okay?"

"Now I am way better than okay," Peter told him. "Thanks."

"You didn't need to go out there," Sam said. "I would have survived just getting you here. But thank you."
