"Welcome back," Steve said. "I hope you all enjoyed your break, and that everyone is minus any new regrets and not too horribly sunburnt. Today I'd like to talk about peer pressure. Peer pressure is a terrible thing. You're sitting there, minding your own business, and then your so-called 'friends' tell you 'everyone else is doing it' or 'you'll be a loser if you don't,' and the next thing you know you're wearing a suit that cost more than should ever be spent on clothes and fighting a Nazi made out of bees in the middle of a Las Vegas casino. So it's bad, is what I'm saying. Don't do it. And when people try it on you, whether they're trying to get you to have sex or get a tattoo or buy stupidly expensive clothes or register with the government, tell them to get lost.

"Your assignment for today is to resist peer pressure. You can get into pairs or groups, whatever works well for you, and one of you will resist peer pressure applied by the others, who are trying to convince you to eat a bacon cookie. Have fun."

Ned hadn't really needed to withstand peer pressure because he hadn't had any friends before this. Still, as he got more comfortable, he figured this was a good thing to know.

Penelope certainly never had to deal with peer pressure before. This ought to be interesting.

Well.

Peer pressure had always been less than familial pressure on her, but nonetheless she sunk down into her seat.

Nazi bees?

Even given the mood Dinah was in, that got a whaaa?-face.

He raised a hand.

"Yes, Liir?"

"...what if you like the cookies anyway?"

"Then try to convince someone else to eat the cookies. It should be easier."

"...but they all know the point is to not eat the cookies."

Does not compute. Cheese error. Reboot from start.

"They know they shouldn't smoke or drink or have unprotected sex in the backseat of a Chevrolet, too, and kids get pressured into doing those things every day."

"Dude. That's so not how peer pressure really works."

"How does it work, then?" Alice asked. "And where can I fight Nazi bees? That sounds terribly exciting."

"It does, doesn't it. Well, except the horrible stinging part."

"That's an incentive to kill them rather quickly," Alice noted. "Though I imagine one would need a particular weapon for that."

"Like . . . Allied forces bees."

"I wish I could remember which creatures are predators of bees," Alice mused. "Some types of birds, I think, and maybe dragonflies. They could join the Allied forces."

"That'd be pretty useful. And a bunch of guys in bee-keeping suits with really big boots."

"It seems all we need to do is to find these bees," Alice said brightly. "Where shall we look for them?"

"We could ask Mr. Rogers."

"Let's," she agreed with a laugh. "After class. And I believe you still owe me some shopping and hair dye, if I could impose on your brotherly goodwill, and now that we are land-locked once more."

"I totally do. When do you want to go?"

"I've class Thursday, and I shall be at work all day Wednesday," she mused. "I would suggest we do unspeakable things to my hair while I am at work, but I suspect if we dye the carpeting, Chad will be very displeased with me. When is it that you're free?"

Despite the sunburn, Harper was actually looking pretty pleased with herself. She'd always believed in being herself, so the idea of resisting peer pressure seemed easy enough.

So ... giving in to peer pressure would lead one to going to Las Vegas and fighting Nazi bees? That sounded like an adventure.
