Philosophy 102- Monday- 1st period- Class #4

Jaye had coffee in hand as she stood at the front of the Danger Shop Theater this morning, which she was sipping about every five seconds. "I've decided Monday mornings need the cops called on them just so they can get roughed up in some metaphorical jail. Agreed? Thought so," she said, not waiting for any agreements because really.

"We have another horrible movie for you, so at least there's that. It's called the meta for Mega Snake, which is about... a mega snake. Not dirty. You literally need zero more setup than that."

How to Start a Business, Monday, Period 3

"Real estate is an issue in business that can trip people up," Zayne said. "WIth the businesses you're putting together in this class, it's not much of a concern. You can get away with doing whatever you need in your dorm room, maybe a common room, maybe school facilities if necessary. Worst case, there's plenty of warehouses to squat in."

SCIENCE! Club, Monday After Classes

When the students arrived at the Danger Shop for SCIENCE! Club today, they would find a moddable but suitably impressive lab setup, as well as their three fearless leaders in various states of enthusiasm. And also a super-intelligent computer in the walls to supervise, but she might take more effort to notice on account of not being visible.

Possibly the most enthusiastic of the bunch, though, was Topher, who was even jittering a little. Shut up.

"Hi, so, this is Science Club," he announced. "Obviously. Since there's a lab and all. And apparently we're going to do introductions before we get to the actual science, because I lost that argument, so let's go with name, grade, any scientific experience you might have, something you wanna do in this club, and then two things that are scientific facts and one fallacy. And then we're gonna guess, and if you're wrong there'll be lots of shame. So."

"There will not be any shame," Liara said. That was... the Liara equivalent of a pointed Look you were getting, Topher. Tremble. "If you get it wrong, that merely means there is another aspect of science you might wish to spend some time on with us."

She smiled, brightly, but in a wobbly way, as she wasn't sure exactly what kind of smile would be most calming for the humans. Or how to accomplish that in general. "My name is Liara T'Soni," she stated. "I am an asari, which means that I am not human-- I am alien to you. If you have any questions... well, I am here." She just hoped that wouldn't involve a lot of staring. "My personal field of interest is archaeology, but while I am here, I am at least attempting to spend some time on anthropology as well."

"I'm Evan," piped up the quieter third member of the group, fidgeting only a tiny bit as he stepped forward to address the group. "And... I'm also pretty sure there won't be any shaming here. Mistakes are just another opportunity to learn. Maybe an excuse to experiment, to find the flaw in the logic that led you to make that wrong assumption in the first place." He rocked on his toes a little, and then added. "I'm not an alien like Liara, in case you're wondering. I'm a mutant, a human with slightly different DNA from what people might consider the norm. And I'm pretty interested in biology, as a result."

"And I'm Topher," Topher chimed back in. "Not an alien or a mutant or anything awesome like that, unfortunately. But I like programming. And… brains. And explosions and robots and yeah, any of that would be good here. Also lava." He eyed Evan a little bit there. "Lava would be cool."

"No lava," Liara said, eyeing Topher. "Not outside of a controlled environment!"

"No lava," Evan agreed, eyeing Topher from the other side. "At least, not today. Today is for introductions. So... let's get started, huh?"

"Oh, and if you want to use the lab to test any fallacies, that's cool too," Topher added. Then, a little sulkily, "Except apparently if they involve lava. Then that's a no."

Library, Monday

At first, William had been rather bemused to discover that books on dragon taxonomy existed. He supposed it made a certain amount of sense; with the myraid of worlds Fandom connected to, there were bound to be some where dragons were real creatures instead of just myth.

When the dragon books started mounting raids on the medieval history section, though, William was a little less amused.

A Tale of Two Lions, Monday, Period 2

Tyrion tossed bags of gold-wrapped chocolate coins to the students as he made his way to the front of the class today. They were both a useful prop and delicious.

"Some people will tell you love makes the world go round," he said, once he'd reached his desk and taken his usual perch. "They're wrong. Money does. If you're rich, you always have a far better chance at attaining power than you do if you're poor, no matter how intelligent or strong you are."

Cut because they got talky this week. )

Mad Science & You: Week 4 (Tuesday, Period 3)

This week, the Danger Shop had been set up to look like the partially finished basement of a suburban 50s house. The entire floor had been retrofitted into a lab, with heavy grey machines and connecting wires set into the walls. A human-sized metal box with glass panelling and a hinged door stood in the middle of the space. Piles of broken furniture and household goods surrounded the otherwise perfect metal boxes.

Sliding doors were at both ends of the room. One, leading to an antechamber, was open; the other, leading up to the rest of the house, was closed. An odd, constant buzzing noise came from behind the sliding door blocking the stairway up.

Prof Tomoe started into his lecture as soon as all the students had arrived. "We've spent the last couple of classes looking at different types of reanimation. It's time to expand our scope a little. So, today, we're going to look at a completely different topic. Teleportation!"

He placed a hand on the metal box. "The first successful teleporter was invented by Dr Andre Delambre in 1958. The device is extremely simple. You place an item or individual in telepod A." He rapped his knuckles against the glass panel. "The computer scans it, disassembles it down to atoms, beams it across to telepod B at the speed of light, and reassembles it there." He pointed to the far side of the basement, where an identical box sat in the antechamber. "A fairly remarkable feat for something built and controlled using 50s technology.

"For today's class, we're going to test out his teleporter. If you would like to be teleported, step into telepod A one at a time. As much as I'd like to force you to go through with this, the school would like me to clarify that this is a voluntary activity and there is a 95% chance that you will be successfully reassembled at the other end."

He reached for the control panel, and then stopped. He looked back over at the class. "Oh, one thing. Be very careful not to get any foreign material in the telepod with you. We don't want any ... complications." A wide grin broke over his face. "Now, who wants to try it out?"

After all the students who were willing to go had been teleported, there was a noise from the far end of the room, and the other door slowly slid open. Prof Tomoe looked up at it. "Oh look," he said, "there's Dr Delambre now.' )

Combat- Tuesday- 2nd period- Class #4

The class was back in the Danger Shop today, in what most people would recognize as a firing range. "So, you can probably figure out what we're doing today," Jaina greeted them. "We're going to be shooting. And before you say this isn't really fighting, I'll tell you right now that I've been in far fewer fights where at least one party wasn't carrying one of these, so let's make sure you know about this. We're going back to something from my galaxy, because I'm the teacher and I can."

She picked up a gun from where it lay on a table full of them and continued, "This is a blaster. It's the same basic principle as the guns you might know from this world, but instead of bullets it shoots a plasma beam, which we call blaster bolts. It also runs on a power pack, meaning we worry about running out of ammo less. And the big plus," she said, making sure she had their attention before aiming at one of the targets and shooting a bolt into it, "is that there's no kickback. So for those of you who've never shot before, it's probably easier to learn on this before I show you the other kind. And for those who might be more experienced with guns here, congratulations, you get to fire a laser gun for a class period.

Jaina quickly went over the basic safety rules (basically amounting to "shoot the dummies, not yourself or others") because someone had to be responsible, and said, "Go ahead and pick up a weapon and see what you can do while you're in here. And if anyone's not comfortable with this, just let me know."
