After spending the previous evening drinking, getting into a fight, having quality time in jail, and finding out that Chuck Bass was actually kind of human, Sam was hoping for a quiet day in the library that would be kind to his mild hangover. He was never, ever drinking on a Tuesday night again. Probably.

"You got arrested?" Peter asked. Then, as it sunk in more. "For hitting a guy once?"

"There were a lot of people around, and he was really pissed," Sam said. "And I think they went with that instead of noticing we'd both been drinking."

"Why'd you hang around long enough to get caught?" Peter asked. "Or should I remember the part where you were drunk?"

"The drunk definitely factored into it, as did the fact that Chuck owns the club," Sam said. "I think he knew the charges wouldn't stick, so he didn't leave, and I was with him."

"Dork," Peter said.

"It's not like I get into situations like that all the time," Sam said, pouting. "I didn't know what to do."

"Typically you'd want to call a lawyer," Peter pointed out.

"Chuck called his dad, and he called their lawyer," Sam said.

"Gee, if only you knew a good lawyer who lived nearby..."

"You think I should have called Nathan?" Sam asked. "And let him know that his brother's boyfriend is in jail? You do realize I still want him to like me, don't you?"

"I'm just saying," Peter replied. Since he could see Sam's point but didn't want to admit it. "Besides, he already likes you."

"Maybe he liked me before I got possessed, but now I don't know," Sam said, getting thoughtful for a moment. "That reminds me, I have something to ask you about that doesn't have to do with me being in jail."

"Does it have to do with handcuffs?" Peter asked, since his mind was in kind of a happy though frustrated place.

Sam turned red as his mind went to a combination of Peter and handcuffs. "Um, no, although thanks for that thought," he said weakly. "Actually, I wanted to ask you how much you know about guns."

"Hopefully this isn't because things went really bad last night and you're looking for a way to tell me," Peter replied.

Sam rolled his eyes at Peter. "No, it's not. I've just been thinking about your powers a lot lately. Sometimes I wonder if maybe it would be good for you to know how to defend yourself without them. I mean, what if you're in a situation someday where using your powers will do more harm than good?" Not that that was a scenario of his Peter-related nightmares or anything.

"Is that scenario likely to happen?" Peter asked, just because Sam sometimes had his own prophecy/destiny thing going.

"I don't know specifically, if that's what you're asking," Sam said. "It's more of a general concern. And one that I actually feel like I can help with."

"What'd you have in mind?" Peter asked.

"Teaching you how to use a gun," Sam said simply. "We can go to the gun range and I'll take you through all the steps and everything you need to know. I know you're a big fan of non-violent defense, but sometimes, there's no other option."

Peter actually knew how to use a gun. His father had taught him when he'd taken the Petrelli boys on hunting trips. Peter could mention that to Sam. On the other hand -

"All the steps? Like hands-on training?"

Sam smiled and turned a little red again. "Very hands-on," he promised.

Hmmm - mention that he already knew how to use a gun or agree to an outing that involved being close to Sam?

Yeah, no contest.

"Sounds good," Peter told him.

"Really?" Sam asked. "You don't have to if you don't want to. I just thought...I want to help, and this is something I know really well."

"Why not?" Peter said. "Especially if it means that much to you. When were you thinking?"
