Steve looked horribly embarrassed as he started class today. "I would just like to begin by apologizing to anyone I insulted, in any form, over the weekend. I was, like many of you, not myself, but that doesn't make some of the things I said to people any less reprehensible." He didn't think he was ever going to come to terms with the memory of that person's anger and prejudice. And that had been him. God. "Now. Moving along to our class topic. Last week we talked about pregnancy, this week you're going to participate in a practical exercise. I have here nine five pound bags of flour, one for every two of you, because yes, you have been randomly divided into couples. For the next week, these are your babies. You will carry them everywhere. You can name and decorate them if you like, but do not damage them. I expect the bags returned intact next week. As to how I will know..." Steve picked up one bag and turned the bottom to face the class, revealing his signature. "I'm told these would sell for a pretty penny on eBay in certain realities. Don't even think about it, Mr. Madrox. When I call your names, you can come up and get your 'baby,' and then spend the rest of the period getting acquainted with your new partner in parenting."

A bag of flour. Penelope stared and then shrugged. Carrying it around all week might be a bit of a pain, but sharing this effort with her partner would be tolerable.

Van Helsing is very much not understanding the concept or necessity of this exercise.

The bag of flour is eyed warily and he has no desire to tote it around for any length of time. However, he can't let his classmate handle all of the work, so he'll do his share. And will vow to never even consider the possibility of having children.

"Hello," she replied, politely enough. "Should you like to take our baby the first half of the week, or the second half?"

"Um, well, which works out better for you?"

"I'm very willing to work around your schedule," she replied, her tone kind.

"Have a coin? We could flip for it?" He's attempting diplomacy, though he's not always very good at it.

Penelope blinked. "I don't, no. Perhaps I could keep it until Thursday morning?"

"That works. Where should we meet to pass 'it' off?" Yes, 'it', because unwieldy sacks of flour are 'it's.

"Our baby, Helaborasoreantalis," yes, Penelope named her, "is sensitive. Shh. And would you like to stop by my room Thursday morning to pick her up?"

He look absolutely horrified at that name. There are just too many letters going on there. "Only if we can shorten her name a little."

"Do you know what a Helaborasoreantalis is? It's a flower and it blooms all year long, even in the winter. Our daughter cannot have a shorter name. But," she grinned, "you may call her Helabora for short if you like."

"Well, yeah, that's what I meant - shorten the name. That's fine. What room are you in?" He wants this assignment to be over as soon as possible.

It was an all week assignment. Poor guy. "332. I'll expect you to not be late."

"What time Thursday morning?"

Not that he has any intention of being especially prompt.

"Early ~~handwavey time~~ morning," she told him.

He nods. "I'll do my best." He's still eying the baby-sack warily.

"Thank you, babydaddy."

He now looks absolutely terrified as he turns to find someone else to talk to for the remainder of class... or maybe he actually listens to the lecture for a while.
