Sex Ed, Monday [2-9] Third Period

Steve looked horribly embarrassed as he started class today. "I would just like to begin by apologizing to anyone I insulted, in any form, over the weekend. I was, like many of you, not myself, but that doesn't make some of the things I said to people any less reprehensible." He didn't think he was ever going to come to terms with the memory of that person's anger and prejudice. And that had been him. God. "Now. Moving along to our class topic. Last week we talked about pregnancy, this week you're going to participate in a practical exercise. I have here nine five pound bags of flour, one for every two of you, because yes, you have been randomly divided into couples. For the next week, these are your babies. You will carry them everywhere. You can name and decorate them if you like, but do not damage them. I expect the bags returned intact next week. As to how I will know..." Steve picked up one bag and turned the bottom to face the class, revealing his signature. "I'm told these would sell for a pretty penny on eBay in certain realities. Don't even think about it, Mr. Madrox. When I call your names, you can come up and get your 'baby,' and then spend the rest of the period getting acquainted with your new partner in parenting."

Edmund stared. Then he stared some more. He wasn't quite sure when he was going to get over the staring.

"This is the weirdest assignment I've ever had," said Harper. "Do you think Mr. Rogers would get mad if I decorated our flour bag?"

"I don't think he'd mind, but...there won't be glitter involved, will there?" As if this weekend wasn't bad enough, now he was randomly a fake father.

"No, I'm thinking apricot," said Harper, a faraway look in her eyes. "And maybe a little bit of gold braid as an accent."

If Edmund didn't have manners, he would have been backing away now, but he did have manners, so he stayed put. The look on his face, however, was the same one he got when his sisters tried to talk to him about interior decorating. "I think it would be best if I left any decoration in your capable hands. How, er," he faltered, trying to figure out what to do with a bag of flour. "How do you want to go about sharing this?"

"We could either split the week or trade off with at different points during the day," said Harper, pulling out a piece of paper from her notebook and drawing up a schedule. "Honestly, I don't think carrying around a bag of flour is really going to crimp my plans for this week, so I don't mind carrying it around. It'd be like a new accessory!"

Edmund glanced at Professor Rogers, and decided it would be best if he didn't try to get out of doing this assignment. If nothing else, it would serve as some kind of practice for when there was a child around Cair Paravel this year. "We can split it up fairly. It's probably easiest to do this day by day, or to do half a day each. I don't have any plans as such, so I'll leave it the scheduling to your discretion."

"Half a day each would work for me. That way, we'll get equal amounts of time with Junior," said Harper. "Would you like days or nights?"

"Nights if possible," he replied. "But I can work around that as needed."

"Then nights are all yours and I'll take days," said Harper. "Where would you like to me drop off Junior? Or you can pick him up from my room. I'm in 417. Oh, and maybe he needs a better name than Junior."

"I'm in room 429 if you need to drop him off, but I can come and get him from you whenever you'd like. What time will we change over?"

"Eight o'clock. That way, you can pick him up before bedtime and I can get him from you before first period," suggested Harper.

"That works well for me," Edmund agreed. "Promise no glitter?"

"Absolutely no glitter. I promise," said Harper.

She had other tools at her disposal. There were always sequins shiny glass beads.

"Thank you." He'd heard all about glitter in Fandom. He was going to avoid that, and turning into a horse, if he could avoid it. He'd already failed at not turning into someone he wasn't. "Do you have a name preference?"

"Well, I was thinking Munchkin, but that might be a bit too cutesy," said Harper. "I know! We can name him Justin. That's a totally great name."

[identity profile] once-a-traitor.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Justin," Edmund repeated. Considering he was King Edmund the Just, that was possibly the dorkiest name ever for his 'son' but no one here had to know that. "It's perfect."

[identity profile] chic-harper.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh huh. Just perfect," agreed Harper.

Alex was going to flip when she found out that the flour baby was named after her older brother, but Harper didn't care. Besides, she could count on her BFF not to tattle to the real life Justin back in New York.

"Then I'll see you and Justin this evening," he declared.
