Speech Comm

[CJ feels like her old self...from before. Beware of wicked sarcasm.]

201--Speech
Gang, we've had a week off, so we're behind. I need you to step it up. We're going to make speeches on Thursday regarding the elections...3 to 5 minutes on the topic of the week. You have the freedom to say whatever you want, but I expect it to be done well. Use ethos, pathos, and logos. Ok, brainstorm, and I'll be walking around to give you help. Go.
**************************

301--Interpersonal Comm

Listen up. Families. What can we say. The accepted theory is that the family unit that is pleasing to us is a microcosm of the social structure...likewise, society is a macrocosm of family. Keeping this in mind...and moving away from the self into the hypothetical, lets talk dysfunction. [Writes DYSFUNCTION on the board] This means literally "to not work" but has many interpretations. We're going to figure it all out today...[flatly] then you'll be the smartest class in the school. Ok, go. Talk. Or I'll set fire to the room.

Chip...you're in deep shi--trouble. I need to talk to you out in the hall.

Election speech?
I think I can come up with 5 minutes on that, yeah.

"Yes, teacher. Whatever you say."

Elizabeth walks in, a huge smile on her face, and places a cup of coffee on CJ's desk (again), before taking her seat.

*DEATH, having now studded his robe with rhinestones to match his tiara and scythe, wonders aloud*

Family dysfunction is a commonly regarded as a social problem.

Dysfunction in a society is found when parts of a society undermine, and don't maintain the whole. Some have argued that America as a society is dysfunctional and that the fact that just under 7 million Americans are imprisonened, or on probation or parole show how a state ruled society has failed.

Sydney thinks a bit and jots down some notes.

Sydney looks at the word, and snickers a little. She probably had one of the most dysfunctional families ever. She keeps one hand on her stomach, hoping her child will not be too effected.

Parker tips C.J. a sardonic glance, and begins to work on what she *really* thinks of elections.

Well... all the family's I know back home are usually trying to frell each other over or kill each other on a regular basis... and that's usually what the rest of the society's like. ::shrugs:: Dunno whether one's supposed to...to have caused the other though.

Lee was completely out of the loop when it came to the elections so he's totally frakked today.

I'm not really sure why family dysfunction exists. I just feel fortunate that my family, for the most part, is not dysfunctional. We're not the most normal family in the world, but we make it work. It's a shame so many families cannot get along.

Pathos... wasn't he the dog on Enterprise?

*thinks*

Okay.. ethos, a beagle and those little plastic blocks that stick together...

This is an odd assignment.

*fires up laptop, but can't decide if he should be doing research or playing Sims*

"Dysfunction exists in families when one member of a family acts in a way that harms the other members. This happens when one member decides to seek something that benefits them but is detrimental to the family unit as a whole," Veronica says in an even tone.

D'anna couldn't care less about the elections as of right now. The flurry over trying to get into office was over and the in-office kerfuffles haven't yet fermented. Taking out her notebook and pen, she doodled in hopes of being smitten by a good idea. While waiting for inspiration she counted the minutes until the next class and cursed herself for not getting up early enough to grab a cup of coffee on her way to class.

Grinning at the professor's final statement, D'anna prodded her own sleepy brain in an attempt to come up with something to add to the conversation. "So you want us to discuss the failures of society and how those shortcomings are directly related and reflected by the family setting and structure?"

Dysfunctional families can benefit a lot from psychiatric therapy.

Dysfunction exists because there is absolutely no way everybody can get along all the time. If they did it would be boring.

[Checking in, will be back for more later.]
