Claudia, in celebration of the lights being back on in the library, was wearing one of her brightest outfits: pink (pinkpinkpinkpink) tights under a green plaid miniskirt, a turquoise button-down shirt over a tan cropped tank top. Her boots were shiny and black, and her hair was tucked up under a bright orange beret. On anyone else, the outfit would make the baby Jesus cry. On Claudia, it looked great.

She dropped three bags of Twizzlers onto the top of the counter before settling down with a fashion magazine.

"I mean, my gran doesn't let us have just anything -- have to eat your greens before you can have any pie, all that," Sookie admitted, "but she never banned candy 'less we were in trouble."

"How would you get into trouble?" Claudia asked.

"For me? Being smart, usually," she said, shrugging. "Jason always gets in the bigger trouble. I'm the quiet one.

"Quiet's not so bad," Claudia said. Because she was so quiet. Really.

"I guess you'd think that, working in a library," Sookie giggled.

"After this, I always have to go home and blast music," Claudia confided. "There's such a thing as too quiet."

"But you must like it, being around all the books!" Sookie said like the giant dork she was.

"Sometimes I think they're talking about me," Claudia murmured. "This place is weird."

"...the books?" she asked for clarification, peering at her. "I mean, this place is weird, yeah."

"I got warned by the hot old guy that runs the place," Claudia said, nodding.

"Hot old guy?" she wondered.

"Professor Jones," Claudia said, sighing dreamily. "He has nice eyes."

"How much older are we talking?" Sookie asked.

"Way old," Claudia said. "At least forty."

"Ew," Sookie said, wrinkling her nose.

"He's pretty hot for an old guy, though," Claudia admitted. "So are a lot of the teachers."

"I hadn't really looked," she admitted. She'd be looking now, though.

"What classes do you have?" Claudia asked.

"History, Ethics, and...um, Sex Ed," Sookie admitted with a blush.

Claudia smiled. "I took health last semester," she said. "Have they gotten to the icky videos of births yet?"

"Nope, mostly he seems to be concentrating on stuff we could catch from each other," she said, making a little face.

"Ew," Claudia said with feeling. "That's what condoms are for. And having standards."

"People keep trying to get me to date. I just don't know what to tell them when they ask why I don't," Sookie said dryly.

"There are a couple of options," Claudia told her. "You can say you're super religious. You can make up a fake boyfriend at home who's a Marine and totally the jealous type. Or you can tell them it's none of their business."

Or she could tell the truth, but Sookie suspected that Claudia might not deal well with that. So she decided to feel her out a little, lowering her mental shields so she could get a better feel for what she was working with. "Yeah. And I could tell them something totally crazy, too, right? Because this place is so weird."

See, she could be sneaky.
