The Library [Thursday, January 29]

Claudia, in celebration of the lights being back on in the library, was wearing one of her brightest outfits: pink (pinkpinkpinkpink) tights under a green plaid miniskirt, a turquoise button-down shirt over a tan cropped tank top. Her boots were shiny and black, and her hair was tucked up under a bright orange beret. On anyone else, the outfit would make the baby Jesus cry. On Claudia, it looked great.

She dropped three bags of Twizzlers onto the top of the counter before settling down with a fashion magazine.

"Right, that," Sookie said, taking the out. Her issues with not talking and all it entailed didn't only include the telepathy, after all. "I mean, it's got to be awful. I wouldn't know."

Claudia spun a Twizzler between her fingers. "Do you want to know?" she asked.
"Because the talking and the not talking...it's fun."

"I'd think it'd be nerve-wracking," she admitted.

"A little bit," Claudia admitted, "and that's even without knowing what they think of my hair or outfit or my deeply held love of junk food."

"You always dress so differently, though. If they didn't like it, they shouldn't be on a date with you," Sookie replied, shaking her head.

"My first date here," and only one, but details, "was during that clothing strike?" Claudia said. "And I didn't have any shirts."

And now Sookie was blushing all over again. "What did you wear?"

"A jacket and a lot of double-sided tape," Claudia admitted with a grin, "and an attitude that said 'I totally meant to wear this.' I think the attitude helps the most."

"I could never go out in something like that. I hid in my room when the laundry was all weird," Sookie admitted shyly.

"If I'd been able to hear what people thought of my outfit, I might've hidden too," Claudia replied.

"Not even that," she said, shaking her head. "I'd just feel way too exposed."

Claudia thought about that. "Like because you weren't wearing a lot of outer clothes, you'd feel emotionally vulnerable?"

Claudia watched a lot of Oprah.

"...more that I just don't want everyone to see my...everything," Sookie said carefully.

"Thank you," Sookie said, turning redder, "but I don't know that I'd be comfortable with anyone being able to see all my hotness."
