Detention [Saturday, January 10].

Bright and early Saturday morning, Minsc and Boo waited for the small group of bad-doers to show up at the shop classroom for their detention. Normally, the chance to dole out discipline to such unruly teenagers would have him excited and eager, ready to put them through a trial that would help set them on the straight and narrow.

He even had a sign with their names, ready to cross them out when they arrived:

Prince Edward
Peyton Sawyer
Cal Stephanides
Michael Van Helsing

Unfortunately, this week, Minsc was a bad-doer, too. Apparently, encouraging your class to destroy desks was very discouraged.

Once the kids had gathered, Minsc cleared his throat. "Alright, youngling. In this workshop, there are many tools, and, more importantly, many desks and chairs that have been utterly demolished in what I promise you was a truly inspiring display. I am sure you are all here for a very good reason, so I hope you intend to work hard. Today, you will be putting them back together!"

"You only have until two o'clock, so, get to work!"

Minsc would be helping.

Tool and supplies in the shop are completely moddable, the chairs and desks are utterly destroyed, and, yes, Minsc expects you to at least try. He'll help, but helping each other is encouraged!

Another detention Cal didn't earn and they wanted him to handle tools like hammers and nails and possibly saws early in the morning.

Oh, this was going to end up well.

"Hands," Cal said to those particular appendages, looking down at them as he got ready to give it a go, "it was nice knowing you guys."

"Oh you have got to be kidding me," Peyton said. "Three days on Endor building to make up one detention and then I get here and have to find a way to turn splinters back into chairs and desks?"

"Oh, if you assisted with the Endor trip," Minsc offered brightly, helpfully, "then this should be a cinch for you!"

"I am uncertain as to why I am here!" he exclaimed, fisted hand to hip, booted foot poised on a piece of broken desk.

"I am to be married in the morning and should like to search for my bride! Ah-hah!"

Yes, he did realize several mornings have passed since he's been here. But he reeked positivity!

"You're probably here for the same reason I am," Cal muttered, despite a voice telling him to just avoid the guy with the doofy sleeves. But he wanted to complain. Hadn't he been saying all week that he was going to wind up with a detention for nothing? He should have gone ahead and passed notes with Amber and Claire in class after all, then he'd at least have earned and one of them would be here with him. "Which is no reason at all."

Adora had no idea why she was here, but she was no enemy of hard work when it was expected of her. Wondering what had happened to these desks, she focused on finding pieces that seemed to match up.

"I fear this is going to be next to impossible," Adora murmured to herself.

"Everything's impossible with an attitude like that, my lady!" Minsc noted, driving a nail into what was likely a desk leg.

Van Helsing is not a stranger to hard work. In fact, it happens to be something that he's all too familiar with. He does have a tendency to get himself into trouble more often than not, though typically, it hadn't been as a result of arguing with a teacher - at least, not about the lecture.

Woodworking he's done, but this desk assembly thing might have him a little perplexed for a few minutes. He lifts pieces and looks at them, attempting to determine how, exactly, they fit together.

Now this fellow certainly seemed on the right track! It was true that Minsc would have said the same for anyone, sure, but still. "Keep up the good work!" he encouraged.

Lunch -- 01/10.

"Okay, younglings, it is time for a lunch break!"

Which consisted of what Minsc had brought and what Minsc considered a decent lunch. A loaf of very dry break, a canteen of water for each student, and a lot of really large, greasy legs of mutton.

It's like being at the Ren Faire!

Van Helsing would admit that this particular lunch might even be a bit 'primitive' for him. Not that he's turning down food; he's just confused about the wide variety of modern and not-so-modern things he's seeing here.

Peyton's eyes went wide. She drank the water, but decided she'd just deal with being hungry till later when she could get a real meal. There was no way she was eating that... whatever it was.

Painting Chairs and Desks! -- 01/10.

You've got a few more hours before release, and so Minsc has pulled out a bunch of paint and paintbrushes, which should be guaranteed to be more interesting than the building part.

"We've put them together," kind of sort of? "now let make them look nice! Paint to your heart's content, and then you may go and be on with your day and try to be good this time!"

Adora was content to paint using a variety of pastels, leaving the feeling that her desk had been made of the magical trees of her home.
