Bright and early Saturday morning, Minsc and Boo waited for the small group of bad-doers to show up at the shop classroom for their detention. Normally, the chance to dole out discipline to such unruly teenagers would have him excited and eager, ready to put them through a trial that would help set them on the straight and narrow.

He even had a sign with their names, ready to cross them out when they arrived:

Unfortunately, this week, Minsc was a bad-doer, too. Apparently, encouraging your class to destroy desks was very discouraged.

Once the kids had gathered, Minsc cleared his throat. "Alright, youngling. In this workshop, there are many tools, and, more importantly, many desks and chairs that have been utterly demolished in what I promise you was a truly inspiring display. I am sure you are all here for a very good reason, so I hope you intend to work hard. Today, you will be putting them back together!"

"You only have until two o'clock, so, get to work!"

Minsc would be helping.

"You had to solve a murder mystery for detention?" Now he's really confused.

"Yeah," she looked around at the splintered desks in chairs. "Crazy, right? But I have to say it was a hell of a lot more fun than this."

He shrugs. "This isn't so bad." He twists a screwdriver, fastening two pieces together.

"Probably 'cause you're better at it than I am," she said with a grin, holding up the wood glue.

He grins at her, holding up a screwdriver to her. "You can do it." He explains several aspects of putting the pieces back together.

She watched carefully, then attempted it herself. "Hey, not bad! Thanks."

"You're welcome. Building is relaxing if it's not forced on you."

"I wouldn't know," Peyton said with a grin. "But yeah, I can imagine. Anything you really like doing, that you can lose yourself in... It's relaxing."

"That's what I've been told. I rarely have time to investigate things I like doing. At least, not until coming here."

"They kept you pretty busy where you were, huh?" Peyton asked, working on screwing the last leg back into the desk she was working on. "So... now that you have time, what do you want to investigate?"

He nods agreement to the first, then a slight shrug the the latter. "I'm not sure. Whatever I can, I suppose."

"That covers a wide variety of things," she said with a smile. "But if music ever falls into that category I'd be glad to help."

"Thank you. I might take you up on that."

"No problem," she said with a smile. "That and drawing are about the only two things I'm really good at. Though with music, well, I know a lot about it, I can't make it."

He grins. "I've been told I sing all right. Never really paid much attention." It's probably the only thing he wasn't asked to stop doing where he was previously schooled. "Most of my drawings look like blobs or stick figures," he offers shyly.

"Well, you don't want to hear me sing," Peyton said with a laugh. "But drawing I can do. Made a huge mural for my roommate - mountains, snow, trees, the whole deal."

"That was nice of you." He nods. "I've found I have some talent with sculpture, in an abstract form. They look better than my drawings."

"Really?" Peyton said. "You have any of them here? I'd love to see them."

"I don't. Doesn't mean there won't be any around over time."

"Well, if there ever are..." She smiled up at him. "I'm in 319."

"Sure. I'm in 215... when I'm not in detention," he responds with a chuckle.

She laughed again. "Good point. How sad would it be if we mostly saw each other here."

"Pretty sad, I would think." He frowns. "I'm not sure I much like detention."

"I'm not so fond of it myself," she said, "getting too in one class notwithstanding."

He takes a look at their handiwork and comments, "I do believe we are ready for either a break or painting."
