BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Spirit's ride to the island had been settled and Adora was trying very hard not to be nervous while she waited for the Fandom transport to arrive. Looking out the airport window, Adora realized she'd never seen so many fleets of vehicles in all her life that weren't involved in some sort of insurrection, and found herself desperately hoping her mother was right about this Earth place being safe from the Horde.

Just the thought of her family calmed Adora and she instinctively reached to touch the Sword of Protection where it was hidden by her hair and clothing, feeling that no matter where she was, she always had a way to contact the people she loved.

Now if only she knew for sure that this room marked "Fandom High" was really where she needed to be. Adora paced the large space as she waited, thinking she couldn't possibly be the only new student journeying to campus in this manner.

The nice thing about being a Jedi Padawan sent to a distant school past the edge of known space was that you didn't need to carry much. Just a few changes of robes, a datapad to keep as a journal or for work, and his lightsaber on his belt, and Zayne was theoretically prepared.

Now he just had to hope he was in the right place.

Zayne flashed a friendly smile. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Zayne. And this is it for me, actually," he said, indicating the bag on his back. "I travel light."

"I also have some spare clothes," Zayne admitted. "So I guess he roughs it a little more than I do."

"Not really," Zayne said. "It was part of my training, but the planet where I spend most of my time is really just a giant city, so it doesn't come up too often."

"I'm in training to become a Jedi Knight," Zayne said proudly. "It's a kind of warrior monk group devoted to keeping peace across the galaxy. And if I don't accidentally cause any major problems here, I might actually become one someday."

"That is a totally dibble robe," Claudia gasped. "Vintage?"

"Dibble?" Zayne asked. It shouldn't have surprised him that the slang here was different. He really just wanted to know if it was good or bad. "No, it's not vintage. Well, it's a about a year old now, but it's still relatively new."

Claudia had to find one of those robes. For real. "I must've missed seeing them in Vogue," she said with a slight pout. "Hi. I'm Claudia."

"I'm Zayne Carrick. It's very nice to meet you," Zayne said. "What's Vogue?"

"Only the most important fashion magazine in the world," Claudia said, pitying his ignorance.

"Ah, that explains it," Zayne said. "I'm from a completely different world."

Not that he paid attention the fashion holos on Taris either. But he'd heard of a couple of them.

Staring.

"Drugs are bad," she said carefully. "There was an assembly?"

"Oh, no, I'm not on any drugs," Zayne said reassuringly. "Sorry, Master Lucien warned me that people might not be used to intergalactic travel here, but I actually do come from another planet."

"Okay, seriously," Priestly said, catching sight of the latest arrival. "Is this some sort of reform school for people who like weird clothes, or what?"

Hey, it totally made sense to him. People on the East Coast probably did that sort of thing.

"Not as far as I know," Zayne said. He was sure that one was an insult, but if the worst mistake he made today was a fashion mistake, he'd be able to deal with it. "Unless I'm waiting for the wrong shuttle. This is for Fandom High?"

"That's what the sign says." Priestly was beginning to wonder, though. Maybe his dad really had thrown darts at a wall to send him here. "I'm Priestly."

"Just that my parents thought it'd be better for me than working at a hippie sub shop."

Zayne didn't know what a hippie sub was, but he was just going to go along with it. He didn't want to ask too many silly questions too soon. "My current teachers didn't tell me much about it, either. Hopefully it's a good place."

"I hope we don't either," Zayne said. "All I brought was robes. I don't have anything more formal than that."
