History in Living Colour - Friday, Period 3 (Week 13)

The town of Tombstone looked a heck of a lot like it was straight out of a Western. The buildings lined Main Street, the central point of the town being the saloon. Horses were tied up at several points along the street, minding their own business. The one noticeable thing that differed from the other simulations the class had been through was that there were no people. This time, the class would populate the town.

Welcome to Arizona circa 1881.

Alice felt rakish and dangerous and just a little wicked as she sauntered out onto Main Street, fingering the six-gun sitting in the holster on her hip. She had her head held high and was glancing around for her fellow outlaws. She didn't fear none of them sheriff-types. She was itchin' for a duel.

Amber felt oddly cute in her cowgirl getup. Hat, skirt, boots. The real deal. She walked casually along, just checking things out.

Meg was less then thrilled with the heavy petticoats and bonnet she was wearing. Let's not even talk about the bible she was holding.

Jen was grinning as she got into her Deputy Sheriff outfit -- though she did polish her own Time Force badge to a shine and pin it onto her vest. There was a slightly sad cast to the grin as she couldn't help recalling how much Wes loved Westerns, but he'd have (or already had, depending how you looked at it) his chance to be in one.

She'd gotten the chance to play the star of her own favorite movie genre, although most stars of kung fu films didn't manage to be simultaneously in a simulation and actually fighting for their lives, but she'd missed out on the Western thus having no icons for the cause. (Also on the jungle film, but she was perfectly happy to live her life without the image of Eric in a loincloth burned into her brain, thanks.)

The badge got an extra shine once she surveyed her appearance and tilted her hat at what she thought was a jaunty angle.

"Let's ride out, boys," she said to no one in particular, then let out one tiny giggle. "Always wanted to say that."

Under normal circumstances, there was no way Sam would have bothered going to a class. But this place was far from normal, and he knew he had to be more careful in keeping up appearances the longer he stayed. Dean was in this class, which meant he'd notice very quickly if Sam skipped, and when he'd learned that his role for the day's assignment was to be a preacher...well, that was just amusing enough that he didn't mind playing dress up for now, telling himself that this wasn't a waste of time if it kept people fooled.

Truth be told, Adam was a little odd in his outlaw getup. Then again, this could be fun. Adam smiled lightly as he checked his holster and gun, thinking today might be kind of cool.

Tosh was rather amused by all of this as she stood outside the town's general store that she was supposed to be the owner of.

Warren didn't have the foggiest idea how necessary his role as doctor was really going to be during this simulation, and he really didn't know the first-thing about first-aid.

So he had decided, as he stepped out onto Main Street, that it didn't matter how serious the injury or illness, he was going to just proclaim all of his patients to be dead.

Stubbed toe? Sorry, Ma'am, there's nothin' I can do for y'all.

Robin found a tiny pair of cowboy boots, a hat, and a guitar waiting for him in the changing house. He put them on, and strode out into the street, looking for a place to play.

Rodney was annoyed that he had to change into homespun. It seriously itched. he also felt that the large leather apron he had to wear was much heavier than it had any right to be. At least the gloves might prove useful.

Once he was kitted up, Rodney walked along the street until he came to what looked like a smithy. "Oh, that's just great," he sighed.

Karal wasn't too sure how successful a bartender he'd be, but he was keen to give it a try. So, he'd donned an outfit more appropriate (http://www.amasquerade.com/images/products/1865_1890_wild_west/1800sgambler.jpg) than his robes, and tied a red bandanna around Altra's neck.

Altra was not pleased. But still, he perched on the bar, looking annoyed, while Karal polished a glass and tried to look bartenderish, surveying the room through the 'cat's eyes.

Lola perched herself on the edge of the piano and played with her feather boa.

The only thing she really knew about the old west was from spaghetti westerns, but this was kind of fun, anyway. She wondered if she could get the player piano to play "Bei mir bist du schoen".

There was no way Robin was to miss the saloon. He came in, not disturbing the swinging doors at all, which he thought was a shame. So he went back out, found a stick, and managed to push the doors open as he came in with it, before tossing it out of the way.
