Edward had the posters from this week's class set up. Also on display were the empathy bellies and the anatomy models from previous classes.

"Hello," Edward smiled. "I'm Mr. Cullen, the sex education teacher. Are you related to one of my students?"

David nodded, smiling faintly in return. "David Fisher. I'm Claire's brother. She's told me a little about your class."

Which, you know, could mean a few things.

"Oh," Edward said, remembering what Claire had said about her brother. He gave David a sympathetic, pitying look. The poor, confused man. "She's a quite spirited young lady."

David frowned a little at the look, wondering if Claire hadn't shared everything and she was in some kind of trouble with this teacher. "That's a way to put it, yeah. I hope she hasn't been, um, disrupting your class."

"Oh, no," Edward said with a wave of his hand. "I welcome discussion. She was somewhat disrespectful earlier this semester, but she served her detention and there hasn't been any further trouble."

David looked concerned. "She can get a little...um, tempermental," he said diplomatically. "I apologize if she did anything really offensive."

He could only imagine.

"She means well," Edward said, unable to repress a small sigh. "And she has a great deal of passion."

"She does," David said, almost seeming proud. "I'm glad you can see that, Mr. Cullen."

"It's very nice to meet you, David," Edward said. "I'm glad you could stop by."

David nearly turned to look around the room, but paused. "If I can ask," he said, curiously, "...what was it that she chose to be disrespectful over?"

It would help if he needed to lecture her.

"She disagreed with my lecture on homosexuality," Edward said.

David froze, slanting a look at Edward. "In what way?" he asked carefully.

"I was discussing the role choice plays in determining one's sexuality," Edward said primly. "She seemed to take it as a personal attack."

David blinked a few times, trying to process that yes, Claire's teacher thought that. "You're teaching these kids that sexuality is a choice?" he finally said, his voice going all that quieter.

"Whatever the source of one's feelings may be, acting upon them is a choice, yes," Edward said firmly.

"Just to get this straight," David said, his temper flaring, "so to speak, it's a choice to act on a compulsion that's part of who you are, to do something that finally feels like the right thing, and do act in a way that feels naturally to you?"

"Yes," Edward said, unmoved by the display of emotion.

"And what are your qualifications on the subject?" David snapped.

"I have a graduate degree in medicine and I've studied the research on this topic," Edward said loftily.

"Hitting up Google searches on hate sites doesn't count as research," David replied.

"I'm not trying to pass judgment on your personal lifestyle," Edward said testily. "I'm simply trying to teach these kids that they have options."

"Then maybe you should try teaching the truth," David replied. "Rather than the sociopathic close-minded bullshit you've chosen to believe."

It was really a shame he wasn't allowed to give visitors detention. Or eat them. "I've very sorry you disagree with my teaching methods," Edward said, in a tone that suggested otherwise. "Perhaps you should try to keep an open mind. Tolerance works both ways, you know."

"I am open-minded," David snapped. "I don't teach teenagers crap like this. That's pretty much a textbook definition of closemindedness."

Edward decided he didn't want to hear any more of this.* "I can see where Claire gets her passion from," he said. "Thank you for dropping by and I do hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend." The pasted-on smile didn't show any teeth.

*Proving David's point, but Edward wasn't self-aware enough to realize that.
