Edward decided he didn't want to hear any more of this.* "I can see where Claire gets her passion from," he said. "Thank you for dropping by and I do hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend." The pasted-on smile didn't show any teeth.



*Proving David's point, but Edward wasn't self-aware enough to realize that.

David knew a cue when he heard one, though frankly, he didn't want to stay, anyway. "...whatever. Go to hell, and enjoy your time there," he said, with a similar measure of forced politeness.

And with that, he turned on his heel and strode off to find Claire, his fists balling up with an attempt to find control.
