Sam had more coffee with him than was possibly necessary as he went to open the library. He was thinking about Homecoming, and how his excitement about possibly getting to go with Peter was balanced out by worrying about who might come back to visit. It was definitely going to be a day of reading to distract himself from thinking about that more.

"Dean, what the hell are you talking about?" Sam asked.

"Cheerleading results are up."

Sam would have had to ask what they said if it weren't for the look on Dean's face. "Oh no. No, no, no."

"Always knew you had it in you, Sammy."

"Dude, no. Seriously?" Sam asked. "You're lying to me to see my reaction. Tell me you are."

Dean instead poked at his soup. "So what is this? Chicken?"

"Yes, it's chicken and vegetables, and that's not an answer to my question!" Sam said. "I'm really on the cheerleading squad?"

"Isn't that what the aim of trying out was? To get on the squad?"

"Well, sort of?" Sam said. "Mostly I wanted to make Savannah happy. I didn't think I'd actually get picked."

"You shouldn't have been so damned cheery then," Dean teased.

"I don't put a half-effort into things, you know that," Sam said. "How much are you going to make fun of me for this?"

Dean considered. "A lot," he finally said.

"I suppose the fact that I'm going to be spending more free time with pretty girls won't swing things in my favor?"

"Well since you usually stammer and blush around them.... no, not really."

"I'm going to feel like an idiot," Sam said, whining.

Dean very deliberately didn't reply, instead started eating his soup.

Sam squirmed a little in his seat. "At least I won't be the only guy," he said.

"True," Dean said. "And hey it's not like cool guys haven't been cheerleaders. Alec used to be one."

"Did you make fun of him? Because if you didn't make fun of him, you shouldn't make fun of me."

"Since he saw nothing wrong with it and wasn't embarrassed, it was kinda hard to make fun of him," Dean said.

"So if I stop being embarrassed, you won't make fun of me?" Sam asked.

Dean considered, eating more of his soup noisily as he did. "I think that would be falling down on my big brother responsibilities."

"You don't have to make fun of me," Sam said, rolling his eyes.

"Pretty sure, I do, yeah."

"It is kind of cool, I have to admit," Sam said. "It's something I've never tried before, and that's fun. Do you think Dad's gonna laugh too?"
