Library [10.09]

Karal arrived at the library with a purpose this morning. He had a class...very soon, actually, but there was time to find a book.

An important book, considering he had no idea what physics was and it seemed to be an integral part of the aforementioned class.

The book was easily found but, sadly, not so easily read. The moment he checked it out, it transformed into a kitten and a box. With a single inscrutable look, the kitten climbed into the box, pulled the lid shut behind it and, as far as Karal could tell, ceased to exist.

"...what?"

Altra rolled his eyes, sniffed, and replied, :I have no idea.:

He thought about opening the box, just to see if the kitten was all right, but sensed that this might be a bad idea.

"I'm Tony. New here," Tony said. He looked at Altra. "Are you a student, then?"

"Welcome then, and if you see a small green creature lurking in the dorms, run the other way," he said, then touched Altra's head. "Altra is my friend, and he's also my eyes, but he's not a student."

[ooc: Is it okay if Altra talks in Tony's head?]

"Nice to meet you both," Tony said. "A small green creature?" No one had yet mentioned gremlins to him.

[ooc: go for it!]

:Gremlins,: Altra clarified, whiskers twitching with amusement.

Karal flushed slightly. "Exactly, gremlins. When they bite you, you believe you are someone else, or become convinced that certain things are true when they're not at all true. I was bitten once and thought I was part of a barbershop quartet, and my friend thought he was a magician." No, he wasn't going to be mentioning last weekend's madness. "It does wear off, eventually."

[ooc: and now I flee to work! Will pick up when I get there.]

Tony visibly started when the cat spoke into his head. His heart pounded for a moment, until he realized that it was the cat and not, say, evil homicidal shadows.

As opposed to the good kind of homicidal shadows? his brain asked him.

"Gremlins," Tony noted, as his heart calmed down. "Okay, I'll definitely watch out for those."

The start did not go unnoticed. "Are you all right?" Karal asked. "Altra really should warn people before he does that."

"I'm fine," Tony managed a smile. "I so did not expect that. New here, remember?"

"Of course. Umm, Altra's a Firecat." After being startled by Altra, Karal thought Tony deserved an explanation. "He's an avatar of Vkandis Sunlord."

:You'll get used to the strange things that happen here,: Altra promised. :Though I'm more unique than strange.:

"An avatar?" Tony asked. The only "avatars" he knew of were used in video games and he was pretty sure that wasn't what Karal meant.

Karal frowned, thinking of how to explain. "Altra is a servant of a god that I serve, Vkandis Sunlord," he said after a moment. "And he has some abilities that were granted to him by Vkandis."

Altra looked askance at being described as a servant, but didn't protest.

"So you're, like, priests?" Tony asked, looking at both Altra and Karal.

"I am, yes," Karal replied with a smile. "A Sun-priest, to be specific."

Tony grinned. "You're a literal sun-worshipper?"

Karal laughed. "I guess I am," he said, very amused, and no little relieved at Tony's reaction. "One of His forms is the sun."

"Where are you from?" Tony asked.

"A country called Karse," he replied, and paused before adding, "It is in a different world. Umm, that is something you'll come across a great deal here, people from other worlds. It took me a long to time to get used to."

"I kind of had a head start on that," Tony said. "I knew someone from another dimension before I got here."

"Then I think you'll do just fine here," Karal said with another smile.
