"Today we discuss lying," Anakin said as he closed the classroom door precisely on time. "Everyone lies. 'Of course that doesn't make your butt look big.' 'You like her, I like her.' 'I'm totally okay with you moving on.' 'Everything's fine, why do you ask?' It's how the world goes around because no one wants to be trapped in a conversation where someone whines at you for hours on end about how awful their life is."

He looked around the room. "Trust me. Everyone's life is terrible. They're just not telling you about it. Be grateful."

He reached onto his desk for a piece of paper. "Today we're conducting an exercise to see how well you pass this particular social ritual, then we'll discuss whether you think it is necessary. We're playing two truths and a lie. I'll tell you three things about myself and you have to decide which one is the falsehood. Then you'll all tell three things and we'll see how well you can either read each other or keep things hidden."

He gave them a small smile. "I'm very good at this." He schooled his face to absolute neutrality, put his mental blocks up to bar any psychics in the room from gaining an advantage, then recited: "During a war at home I was known as 'The Hero Without Fear.' I've been married twice. I've never been beaten in one-on-one lightsaber combat." His eyes challenged them to call him out. "Who's next?"

Tahiri didn't think anyone besides Master Skywalker would be able to tell when she was lying, but just to be sure she made an attempt at putting up a mental block before she spoke.

"I go barefoot because I like the feeling of the ground under my feet," she began, the diagonal scars on her forehead puckering slightly from her thoughtful expression. "I've never been captured in battle, and when I was nine years old I had to survive for a week in the Jundland Wastes of Tatooine, or my adoptive father would've been executed."

Agnes frowned in sympathy. "...You've been captured, haven't you?" she whispered, trying not to stare at the scars.

Tahiri nodded and reached up to rub at her forehead. "I thought for sure the thing about the Jundland Wastes would fool people."

"Too much detail," Agnes supplied. "It's too strange a story to NOT be true."

"Good point," Tahiri acknowledged. "Maybe I should've kept it simple."

"Please let it be the having to survive for a week thing?" She hoped.

Tahiri shook her head, looking almost apologetic. "I could tell you the story, but some of the details are fuzzy after I started getting delirious."

Well, she knew the first was true, and she suspected the third thing was as well, given what Tahiri had told her about who she'd lived with until she was nine, which left only the second thing.

"Lie is not being captured," Firekeeper declared, confident in her choice.

"I knew you'd guess," Tahiri told her, almost brightly. More of a dull matte finish, but it was an improvement for now.
