Sex Ed, Wednesday, Period 2, Class #1

When the students entered, they found that on each of the desks was an 8.5" x 11" piece of white cardboard, a printed list and colored markers. A young, pale man with tousled bronze hair and a beige shirt stood at the front of the room.

"Welcome," Edward said, once the students were seated. "This is Sex Ed. I am Edward Cullen. I know that I look young, but I am older than I appear and I have a graduate degree in medicine." Two, actually, but he knew that would sound unlikely for a human as young as he supposedly was. "You may call me Mr. Cullen, though. Dr. Cullen is my father." He smiled, though he did not expose his teeth. "I would like to have two teaching assistants for this class. If you are interested, talk to me after class or in my office.

"This semester, we will deal with a number of delicate subjects. Know right now that the number one requirement for this class is respect. You must show respect for me as well as respect for your fellow students. There will be no crude remarks, vulgar language or snide comments. We must establish an environment of trust.

"I know how much pressure there can be to relax your values in exchange for a bit of fun. I want you to be there for your fellow classmates and provide a support system. There is plenty of fun to be had without giving in to base urges. One day, each of you will find your soulmate. Do you want to give the most important person in your life a gift that is tarnished and worn or do you want to give them a gift that is fresh and new?

"If you see any of the people here," he gestured around the room with one pale hand, "in a situation which may lead to regret, please step in. We are stronger together than we are separately."

"To begin, we will create a totem 'pole' that represents us together. I would like each of you to choose your totem animal from the list on your desk. Draw that animal on the cardboard in front of you. Then post your totem over there." He gestured to a board on one side of the classroom. "When everyone is finished, you will introduce yourselves and explain why you chose the animal you did."

[OCD coming up.]

[Reminder: Edward is telepathic.]

Chuck had no idea how he ended up in this class but he figured that he'd stick with it, just for the potential laughs he might get from the teacher and the students. It took all of his effort not to choose the beaver for his totem pole. He'd save tasteless jokes like that for later.

Seeing Chuck, Eric considered, briefly, ignoring him; instead, he looked over, smiled a bit, and waved, mouthing, "Hi."

Chuck had to do a bit of a double-take when he saw Eric. Either he needed to check up on Gossip Girl more often or she was getting a little rusty in her gossiping because he hadn't heard anything about Eric leaving New York.

"Well if it isn't the littlest van der Woodsen," Chuck said, not caring if he was talking during class. "I didn't know you went to school here now."

Well, Eric did usually keep a relatively low profile. Gossip Girl had much more interesting people about whom to write.

Eric nodded. "Just got here on Saturday," he said, a bit softly -- he didn't so much mind talking during class, but he didn't want to make a spectacle out of it. "Blair said you were at the school, too."

"Hmm, since Saturday? And Blair didn't mention a thing to me. Shame on her," Chuck said, shooting her a glare from across the room. "Has dear Serena decided to join us in Maryland too?"

If she was then, oh, Chuck was so ready to blackmail her about Nate. He had been itching to do it for ages now.

Eric shook his head. "No," he said, "she's still off at her other school. I just... didn't want to go to St. Jude's this year, and found this school online." He half-smiled, shrugging a bit. "I figured that if Serena could run off to boarding school, I could do the same."

"It's only fair," Chuck said, smiling slightly back at him even though he was slightly disappointed that Serena wasn't going to be here. "St. Jude's won't be the same now anyway. I was the only excitement that school had and now that I'm here, well, you can imagine what it'd be like. School and nothing else."

Eric, meanwhile, was rather happy that Serena -- abandoning wench that she is -- was rather far away.

"I guess I've come where the party is, then," he said, his smile widening a bit. He couldn't help but think about the rumours back home -- Chuck Bass was known for being up for anything, as it were. "I'd hate to be at a school and actually have to learn something." He rolled his eyes; the conversation with Chuck had him acting a bit, playing up the UES arrogance. "Can you believe this class?"

The disbelief, of course, was genuine.

"It's, ah, an interesting approach to sex, to say the least," Chuck said, looking over at the teacher. "Not one I agree with but, at the very least, the class should be good for a few laughs."

Eric blushed a bit. "I, uh. Haven't really thought about it," he lied. Like a lying thing. In fact, he was thinking about it right now, a somewhat elaborate fantasy developing involving Professor Cullen, Chuck, and a cherry popsicle.

"It's definitely interesting, though, yeah."

"The guy must really be into the whole abstinence thing. It's not like he can't get any, looking like that," Chuck mused. Obviously he knew the teacher was good looking. He looked around the classroom again. "Half the chicks have been eye-humping him since he walked in."

"Not just the girls," Eric muttered, possibly too quiet for Chuck to hear. "I wonder if it's a religious thing?" he said, louder.

Chuck had been too busy eying the attractive redhead to hear the first thing Eric had said. But he had heard the second thing. "Might be. Or he might just be a romantic, which is worse in my opinion."

That was a lie. Chuck could be quite the romantic when he wanted to be. It's just that he hasn't wanted to be in the last seventeen years.

Eric, as much as he wasn't likely to admit it (which fourteen-year-old boy would?), was just as much a romantic. Sure, he wasn't waiting for marriage -- it's not like he had any expectations of THAT any time soon -- but he was waiting for love.

Still, he said, "Yeah, definitely," in response to Chuck. "I guess we'll find out as the class goes on."

"Oh I can't wait," Chuck said. He wasn't being as sarcastic as he sounded. He was genuinely curious as to why someone that looked like that would choose abstinence.
