"Yeah, I'm fine," Cal answered, although he wondered if the question was just a general conversation starter or if he looked like he was upset. Or perhaps it was just his general passive dullness again, leaving people not sure what sort of mood he was in. Because he wasn't upset. Just a little annoyed, and a little overthoughtful, when he preferred to not be so...ponderous.

He also couldn't help wonder if this was going to lead to another bout of irritation if Amber saw him talking to Ino, what with how he practically ruined her whole day by mentioning the other girl's name. And so what if she did? What was it to her, anyway?

"What's up?"

To Ino, really, standing on the edges of a crowd and looking thoughtful translated to upset. Ino, however, made no pretense 'bout being anything other than social, so she settled for giving him a mildly dubious look.

"New students!" she said, trying to be slightly less gleeful than normal about it, because he didn't look exactly like he was in the mood for gleeful. "I've met a whole bunch of them."

Cal wasn't in the least bit surprised about that, and it did get a small grin out of him. "I haven't," he admitted, but he'd hope that it wasn't that shocking to her that he wasn't quite the social butterfly that she was. "But it is exciting. It means I'm technically not a new kid anymore."

Not that shocking, no.

"It also means that you've got a Fandom right to try and break peoples' brains," Ino informed him. "Which is always fun."

A beat.

"Have you met at least one new person?"

If Cal had wanted to, he probably could have started breaking brains in his own style the day he arrived, but he had distinctly decided to give over that right, regardless to the situation. One hand abandoned his pocket to run sheepishly through the hair at the back of his neck.

"Uh, not yet."

Probably not at all, today, either. He hadn't quite decided yet.

Ino gave him a Look at that.

"Okay," she said, after a moment. "I'll give you a pass on that because at least you came. Michael didn't, and Liir's currently a kitten, so... yes. You're way further in my good graces than any other of my anti-social boys."

...not that Ino kept track or anything. Totally not. Honest.

Any other of her boys? That got an arch of Cal's eyebrow, a little, and a slight frown. He wasn't sure what to think about being categorized in some sort of collective like that, although part of him was telling him that he should be over joyous with relief over the fact that she would so easily categorize him amongst other males. Really, though, had he given anyone any reason to doubt his masculinity?

Instead, he focused on something else. "A kitten? If I were to see him now, would I find him all covered in ribbons and bows?"

Ino meant it, really, in only the best way possible. It was totally not her fault that she had erm... a certain type of boy, and liked the challenge of their anti-socialness.

Totally not.

She eyed him, and his frown. "No bows.... right this minute," she said. "But I've got, um, a lot of pictures that might have ribbons and such all over him."

"Dear God," Cal stated with the utmost stoicism, "may I never turn into a cute, tiny creature in your presence."

She just laughed. "Liir didn't protest at all! He's a very sweet kitten, just purred and wanted scritches."

Well, Cal supposed that Liir and Worf were just a bit different, personality wise. Just a bit.

"Doesn't matter," he said. "I still wouldn't want to be in his shoes. Er. Paws."

It also helped, rather, that Liir adored Ino while Worf hated her. Just a bit.

"You realize, I hope, that now one day you'll totally be in that situation, right?" With a grin even.

"I know, I know," Cal nodded a little. "So I'm just covering my bases now so you know that when it does happen, and there are pictures involving ribbons, I will be very unhappy with you and you're not allowed to be pouty about it because you know it's coming."

"But you'll get scritches, and cuddles to make up for it as a kitty," Ino protested, giggling. "What's a few harmless pictures in relation to that?"

No, Cal; you were not going to think about asking what you would have to do to get scritches and cuddles without the kitty part. But he was thinking about asking, and thinking about the motions themselves, and...

He blinked, shaking his head, trying hard to stop thinking about that sort of thing. That sort of thing would probably never get to be a part of his life, so he better not even consider it.

Except maybe as a...

"I'll have to think about it."

That just made her laugh. "It's totally going to happen if you come anywhere near me as a small fuzzy animal, you realize."

"Then I'll just have to avoid you when that happens."

Or milk it for all it's worth, good Lord...

She looked at him, all mock-indignant. "I'll have you know that I take excellent care of any small fuzzy creature in my possession."

She totally spoiled them rotten.

"...Worf was an exception to the rule, and even he got loads of scritches." And he'd been severely unwilling about them too.

Although it was kind of depression for Cal to think that the only way he'd ever be able to get that kind of affection was through becoming a small, fluffy creature, he reminded himself that it was for the best that way.

"I'm sure he loved that," Cal said with a grin. "Good that he's back, though. I think any longer, and we would have had a murderous warrior feline on our hands."

"Oh, totally. You should've seen how deep some of the scratches he gave me were," not that they'd deterred her at all, "and he smashed a few of my plants."

...

"If he does that again I'm seriously going to stab him."

Cal frowned a little at that.

True, it was kind of an exaggerated, teasing frown, but it was still there.

"That doesn't seem like behavior fitting of a warrior..."

"It's, like... you know? I totally get that he was pissed at me? Both as a kitty though he's totally pretending to be in denial of the whole... kitty thing now, and all, right? And I've got no problems if he wants to take it out on me, but my plants are, you know, living things in their own right and totally don't deserve to be smashed. It'd be... like... kicking someone's puppy 'cause you were mad at them."

Ino, yeah, was never going to get along with Worf. Ever.

"Hey, I agree with you there," Cal said, nodding a little. He then shrugged a shoulder. "I could talk to him, you know, if you'd like. We get along pretty well."

...Somehow. But he liked Worf, and Worf seemed to tolerate him better than he tolerated most...um, civilians.

"I'd like it if you tried?" Ino said, smiling a bit. "Though I bet he'll say something about me lacking honour and such. Worf caught me sleeping once, at work, and was really pissed about it. I don't see why it matters, I mean, Cable-san's the boss and he just put a blanket over me so I wouldn't get cold, so it wasn't like he cared..."

...Aww. That was cute. Cal grinned a little before shrugging a little.

"Worf's just...kind of special. But, yeah, I'll mention something to him for you."

Cal couldn't help but wonder a little, though: what was with so many of his friends disliking Ino? Granted, it was only two people, but Cal didn't really have that many friends over all.
