Library [Saturday]

Mac had seen the news. With unexplained spirits popping up all over the place, the chances were there would be library-based research to be done. There usually was, so she showed up a little earlier than usual and brought copious amounts of coffee to fuel anyone who showed up.

Teddy!Ron was sitting on a stack of books overseeing.... Or, just sitting there, since he didn't do much else in this form. She just thought it might be more interesting for him if he was still in there somewhere, to be able to watch what was happening.

After making sure there were no ghosts around, Ned wandered over to the group of people surrounded by books and started trying to find anything that might be useful.

He sat some distance away from everyone but close enough that they could still keep with the library rules and not yell.

After several hours, Chris found something interesting in one of the books. He wasn't sure how it might be useful.

"Hmmm, this might be something," he said.

Ned looked up at that, looked around just to make sure no ghosts were saying that and then looked back at where the voice had come from.

"What looks interesting?"

"It's a story (http://neurotic-witch.livejournal.com/29558.html) about a deal that Hades made with Dirce to oust Antiope from her throne," Chris said, sliding the book over in front of Ned.

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ned peered at the book, reading slowly.

"Huh." He read it once more. "Looks important. Think the people in charge should know?"

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Can't hurt," Chris said. "Maybe it's nothing, but the more we know, right?"

"Yeah," Ned said, chewing on his lip. "I'll let someone know. Thanks, man."

Juli had long since given up reading things in depth, they hadn't the time, and was skimming through the pages when her eyes caught something and she paused, backtracking to reread it.

"Fascinating," she noted, "and potentially useful."

"Oh yeah?" Ned asked, wandering over because he might not know what to look for but he could make phone calls. "What is it?"

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] last-mizrahi.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's vague," she observed, turning the book (http://last-mizrahi.livejournal.com/4867.html) so that he might read what she'd found. "but it does contain a location that may be worth checking out."

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"It does." Ned nodded and was already headed to the phone. "Thank you. I'm gonna let the principal know this. Hope it's helpful."

Re: Research Effort:

"Hmmm... This might--"

And with the typical luck of a Liir at Good work, the words meant to be soft and personal struck at just the right moment, and he at just the right spot acoustically, to send it quite a bit farther.

"be of some use?"

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ned found his way over to where Liir was, getting as close as he felt comfortable before peering over Liir's shoulder.

"What do you have?"

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He startled a little and hoped that he wasn't coming up with nonsense. Things as they were, he didn't want to waste time.

"A lyre given to Amphion by Hermes, Olympian god of boundaries and of the travelers who cross them. The lyre was said to have powers bestowed upon it by Hermes, namely that it can build walls between worlds and seal portals. One of the problems is all the ghosts and such, yes?"

He pointed to the picture (http://i30.tinypic.com/34dlj6c.jpg) in the text he'd been working through.

"It's said to be in the Temple of Hermes on Mount Olympus. Wherever that is. Is that near here?"

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think so," Ned said, just vaguely recalling Mount Olympus from some of the lessons at school. "I think it's...out of town."

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"But I'm sure there's some way to get there, see if they'll lend us the thing.

"You do think, considering, that they'll lend it, won't they?"

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I hope so," Ned said, frowning nervously. "I don't think we can drive there. Or bicycle. But, if it's there, there has to be some way to get there."

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"I doubt the broom would be much good getting there.

"...it looks a little big to fit in my bag."

He looked up at Ned.

"But you think it might be helpful?"

"You!" Tony snapped his fingers, pointing over at Ned. He had such people skills sometimes.

But everyone seemed to be talking to the kid about what they found, so...

"What were those temples again?"

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Temple of Hermes," Ned provided, blinking at the man's method of getting his attention.

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] not-ironmaiden.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well he couldn't be expected to know the kid's name now, could he?

"Hermes. Right." He'd get used to this gods and monsters thing eventually. Right now he was just going to focus on his computer. Like a technological security blanket.

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you know him?" It couldn't hurt to ask. "Like...as a friend?"

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] not-ironmaiden.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Tony just stared.

"Unless you're talking about the designer, we'll say no and leave it at that."

Even though he got an extra 'Were you dropped as a child?' look for it.

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"My roommate's a rock," Ned explained, frowning. "Asking isn't so far fetched."

Re: Research Effort:

[identity profile] not-ironmaiden.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"...a rock," Tony repeated. "Right. Well no one is a rock here so let's stick to the matter at hand."

A beat. "Greek mythology that isn't as mythological as once assumed."
