While Sam was very, very glad to be away from the volcano, he couldn't help but wish that the island had taken them somewhere a little cooler. He didn't mind being inside on days like this.

"To be fair, you're usually the first snarker," Dean said. "So I was happy you weren't yesterday."

Sam didn't want to point out that in his opinion, his dad always struck first. "I know you don't like it when we fight. I'm trying to be better for you as much as Dad."

Dean gave him a quick grin. "And don't forget Gracie. Don't want to give her all kinds of bad examples. And don't want her first words to be some repeated snark."

"If they are, I can always blame you," Sam teased.

"Hey if I was going to teach a baby bad words, I had my chance with you," Dean pointed out.

"You were too young to know to do that," Sam said. "Dad just beat you to it."

Dean chuckled. "The look on his face when you repeated that particular word..."

"Sometimes, I think it's a good thing I was a really adorable child," Sam said.

"Yeah, probably saved your bacon more than once," Dean agreed easily.

"Especially when I did stuff Dad didn't approve of then," Sam said.

"No, what saved your bacon then was having a big brother willing to take the fall," Dean pointed out.

"You didn't do it that often. Did you?" Sam asked, realizing he wasn't 100% certain.

"I'm not sure how I should answer that," Dean said, tilting his head. "I mean do I try to push the guilt or let you off the hook?"

"Letting me off the hook is always my favorite option," Sam said.

"I don't know, I'm sorta partial to pushing the guilt myself," Dean said.

"You know what?" Sam said. "I'm in a really good mood, so go ahead and guilt trip me. I can take it."

There was a glint of humour in Dean's eyes. "So it's a challenge now, huh?"

"No. I'm saying I'm in a good enough mood that you guilt tripping me won't bother me as much as usual," Sam replied.

"Yeah that does sound like a challenge," Dean said, then paused. "And is this just an 'yay, I get to play in the geeky library and we didn't get buried in lava and ash' good mood or somehting more?"

"Well, I'm glad we're not buried in lava, but no. Zoe came to talk to me this morning," Sam said casually.

"Ah." Dean smiled widely. "That mean I can start talking about being best man now?"

"Only if I can too," Sam said, grinning. "Dude, why didn't you tell me?"

"Because then I'd have to tell you Dad wasn't asking you to be a groomsman thingy and then you'd be all mopey and emo because I couldn't tell you why and you'd think it was because he didn't like you or something," Dean said with Dean-logic.

"Or you could have told me Zoe was going to ask me so I wouldn't have looked at her like she was crazy," Sam replied.

"Dad said she wanted to ask you -- and dude, I'm so not going to be the one to spoil her surprise."
