Luau: The Main Campfire: Friday Evening

The irony of having a Hawaiian luau while in Greece probably hadn't escaped anyone.  But given that the majority of the students probably couldn't pinpoint Hawaii on the map, it didn't seem like that was enough of a reason to cancel what had become a summer tradition.

So in the early evening, the main campfire was transformed into a party place with coconuts, grass skirts, and leis for everyone.  A pig was slowly roasting over the fire, and a huge moddable buffet spread out to the flagpole.

A dance floor was set up, and Hawaiian music was playing, but there was also plenty of grass spread with blankets for the less-rhythm-inclined.

[OOC:  YAAAAAY LUAU!  Students, teachers, and townies all welcome!]

Willow made an excited, high-pitched squeak.

It meant "Yes" to anyone with a squeak to English dictionary.

Well, a more wordy form of yes, but it was yes all the same.

"Peter was ridiculously happy about it last night," Luke said, pretty fluent in translating the non-verbal after all of his time with Artoo.

"I can't believe it," Willow said. "Well, I mean I believe it because I know him and he seemed pretty happy about the yes-saying. I meant my disbelief to be more in the direction of this happening in the first place which is very very very wonderful and therefore a little amazing."

Luke grinned. "So you weren't expecting the question, then?"

"We did talk about it," Willow admitted. "But abstract and reality are way hugely different things. In a good way. The way where you can't breathe for a minute, but the good way."

"I haven't had one of those kind of moments in a while," Luke said, "but I remember the feeling. I'm so happy for you!"

"Thank you!" Willow said. She then leaned in to whisper. "It's still on, right? The ring? Only sometimes I worry that I accidentally lost it and panicked so much that my mind came up with a very convincing hallucination."

"It's still there," Luke assured her. "And very shiny! You might have to watch it around the squirrels."

"Do you think they'd get jealous?" Willow asked.

"Did any of them have crushes on Peter?" Luke teased. "I only remember a thing about Teyla."

"I don't know," Willow admitted. "But maybe they were too polite to say."

"Has that ever been a problem with the squirrels?" Luke asked. "Being overly polite?"

Re: The Campfire

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"They've always been very nice to me," Willow said.

Luke grinned. "Then I'm sure you could ask, just to be safe."

Re: The Campfire

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I just don't want to hurt their feelings," Willow said. "It greatly decreases the odds of me ever seeing them again."

"Or you could just never bring it up," Luke said, offering Willow his bag of marshmallows. "It works for my family."

It really, really didn't.

"Hard to go wrong with polite avoidance," Willow agreed. She helped herself to a marshmallow. "I suppose I'll have to practice that if I'm going to be a queen. Actually thwapping people might start wars. Or stop them. I guess it depends on the person."

"Or how hard you thwap them. My sister's a princess, and she certainly hasn't stopped thwapping entirely."

"Ooo - does she give lessons?" Willow asked. "Or possibly have some kind of podcast-style correspondance course?"

Re: The Campfire

[identity profile] tatooine-doofus.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke grinned. "I'm sure I can convince her to," he promised. "I'm heading home next week. Leia's brilliant at diplomacy."

Re: The Campfire

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Tell her she'd have a very loyal and grateful audience," Willow said.

"Her favorite kind," Luke said with a small laugh. "I'll send something along to you, I promise. She's one of the best negotiators in our galaxy."

His entire face lit up when he talked about his sister.

"Sounds like she'd be a perfect teacher for me," Willow said.

"She's pretty close to perfect," Luke agreed. "Just don't tell her I said that."

"Said what?" Willow replied innocently.
