As Anakin paced around the Danger room, he looked like he hadn't really gotten a good night's sleep in a few days.

Which was very true. Spending time in a swamp wasn't great for the back.

"Welcome to your Ethics final," he said, pacing around the room. "I will provide you with a series of scenarios. Go through each and provide the answers that best fit what you have learned through this class. Then explain your choice."

Scenario #1

You arrive home after an extended period away to discover your mother has been kidnapped. She's presumed dead. What do you do?

a) Mourn and move on.
b) Brood about it constantly. Perhaps write poetry.
c) Ignore the idea that she might be dead and go after her yourself. Upon finding her remains, torch the village she was in.

Savannah's breath caught at this scenario and for a long time she had trouble with it.

I mourn, she finally wrote out, her hand shaking a little. I mourn and I do everything I can to make sure I know her fate without question... and I try to live a life she would be proud of me for. But you never move on from that.

After all, she had watched Eve gunned down in front of her once...

Great, more essays. Right now, Anemone really hated both her ethics classes.

I've never had a family, so I honestly have no idea, she wrote. I'm sure I had parents at one point, but I don't remember them at all. The closest thing I ever had to a human father was Colonel Dewey, and if someone kidnapped him, I'd probably wish them luck.

People leave and die. It happens. The only death I've ever mourned was TheEND, but he made his choice, and it's not my place to second guess it. Even if I could, which is really darn hard to do when you're bonded with your LFO. I knew what he was thinking and why he did it, so it's hard to drum up the rage to go torch villages or whatever. I did get my revenge by preventing the end of the world, and I think he'd like that.

I haven't moved on, because you can't move on from something like that. He was my partner and my friend and the only family I had for years. We shared a soul, a mind, and a will, and that's not something you can just walk away from. If I could, then I wouldn't have deserved to be his partner in the first place. You mourn and continue, but never, ever, move on.

Rikku swallowed hard before circling "c)" and crossing out "torch the village she was in." Instead she wrote punch the crap out of whoever killed her and try very hard to remember that killing people is bad and so I shouldn't do it myself. Because hate just feeds on itself and then more people hate each other and die and Susso wouldn't want me to kill people over her.

She moved to the next question, not realizing she had written "mom" in Al Bhed.

I don't accept that those are the only options. I would find those that knew how to track people, how to find them when they were missing, and ask them to seek the kidnappers out and discover the truth. If she had been killed, I would find a way to bring those who killed her to justice, whether that was imprisonment or death. Not for vengeance, but according to the laws of the land and to protect others from being kidnapped and killed, and prevent others from having to suffer the pain of losing their loved ones.

Wyatt circled C, and added, That's the closest option to what I would do. Just because she's presumed dead doesn't mean I wouldn't go looking for her myself, because abandoning her when she might still be alive would be ridiculous. If she was dead, I would deal with those responsible.

Scenario #2

You find out that your wife is pregnant, yay! But you also learn that she will die in childbirth. Less yay. What now?

a) Make the most of the time you have left.
b) Look frantically for a cure. If this means doing unsavory things for slightly creepy people, so be it.
c) Like I'd ever get married. Here's how I see it going...

This final was already messing with her emotions, and she blamed what happened the last few weeks for it.

If I were to become pregnant and find out that I was fated to die and that would just be like the Fates to pull something like that since they seem to like screwing with my family so much, I would hope that it was more important to my husband that we enjoy what time we have left and that he be able to look back on our life before with joy and share those memories with our child.

Curse those rebels and their stubbornness. You've captured one of their leaders but she won't tell you where their secret base is. Conveniently enough, you're in a mobile superweapon that can destroy planets. The options are fairly open...

Do you:

a) Call it a day. We'll capture another rebel some time. Maybe they'll tell us.
b) Drag her out onto the command deck and threaten to blow up her planet.
c) Drag her out onto the command deck and actually blow up her planet.

Scenario #4

There is a dangerous vampire loose on the island. He should probably be stopped. Problem is, you don't know where he is, or how to fight vampires.

Do you:

a) Stay inside and try to come up with a plan that involves daylight, stakes, and automatic flamethrowers.
b) Go outside doused in meat scent and get killed.
c) Go outside unprepared and get killed.
d) Go outside prepared and get killed anyway.

Yes, Anakin thought these were your only options.

a) and then e) You call Mr. Skywalker to discuss a spell that you have found in your learnings and ask him if he thinks it is wise or if he could help you with the things needed for this.

She did remember that he had said he would help her if she had a question about her magic and her spells, after all.

Reno was doing his damnedest to look casual as he approached Anakin after the exam. He felt more like he was going to puke. But looking nonchalant at least helped him keep that much in check.

"Question three. Hell of a question," he said. Casually.
