"Yeah?" Adah asked, smiling a little more as she settled as comfortably as she could with her hip against the desk. "Like what?"

"Secret deep thoughts," he amended.

Yeah, if the Eel thought that Adah was going to grace that with anything more than a firm look, then her suspicions that her knew her better than anyone were just going to have to be thrown right out the window.

"What?" He couldn't not laugh at that look. "It's true!"

"Well, you can tell me anyway," Adah pried. "Who am I going to tell? Pride? He talks even less than I do."

"I don't know," he said, looking at her critically. "You could tell a lot of people. These are very secret thoughts."

The critical look was returned measure-for-measure. "A very good point," Adah deadpanned. "I'm such an uncontrollable blabbermouth that I'll bet half the school already knows and you haven't even told me yet."

"What?" she asked innocently, after making a breakneck decision to play this card. If he got upset over it, well, then, he could just deal. "You don't trust me?"

"I think you might have the roles reversed," he said easily. "I trust you."

Adah's eyes narrowed slightly, mostly playfully, at the comment before responding, "Then remind me why you can't tell me these secret deep thoughts that you supposedly have?"

"Because."

That wasn't an answer but it was fun to tease her.

"Oh, come on!" He was far better at teasing her than Adah felt anyone had a right to be. "Don't make me start threatening to tell everyone that you like pretty, pretty flowers, you Eel."

"No one would believe you," he responded. "I'd just show them my arms and they'd forget!"

...Adah hated when he had those moments of cleverness. Good thing they were so rare. She'd have to think a moment on this one...

"I'll borrow some sedatives from the clinic," she said, finally, "and knock you out with them the next time we sleep together, and then tattoo pretty, pretty flowers on your arms while you're out, so that whenever you show anyone, you'll only succeed in proving my point."

He gawked at her.

"That is a lot of work to prove your point," he said. "And I'll just withhold sleeping with you again."

Which would suck but hey.

"I'm very stubborn and there are very few things as important to me as proving my point," Adah reminded him. "You should know this. Of course, you could avoid all this trouble on my part or deprivation on yours very easily by just telling me what sort of deep secret thoughts you have when you are certainly not reading about pretty, pretty flowers."

"What if I said I was thinking about you?" Lee asked.

"Then I'd up the ante a little to counter your refusal to sleep with me by hiring out one of the many ninjas that I'm sure are in our student body to proceed with the sedation and tattooing, because if it's about me, then I really have to know. It's exceptionally unfair to keep secret deep thoughts from me if they're about me."

"When did you make friends with a ninja?" Lee asked, barely containing a snicker.

"Well, I haven't yet," Adah admitted. "Not that I know of, but, come on, how hard could it be around here?"

"I could make friends with a ninja too," Lee said. "And counter you."

Adah eyed the Eel carefully; he was playing pretty hardcore this afternoon. She liked that.

She'd like it even better if she could come up with something that wasn't arming her ninja with viruses to weaken his ninja or simply seducing his ninja into betraying him, thus giving her two ninjas.

So, instead, she just went with a reminder.

"Or," she said, "you could just tell me."

"But, now I have a ninja friend," Lee said. "And he might have a ninja weapon. And wear a ninja mask."

"Okay, well, if he's a male ninja," Adah decided, "then my theory of seducing him to my side will be even easier. Then I'll have two ninjas, one with a weapon and a mask."

All right, now he was laughing. "Underhanded tactics!"

"Oh, and a mask isn't underhanded!" Adah herself, while trying exceptionally hard to appeared shocked...shocked! that he would accuse her of such nefarious plotting, was grinning quite a lot, smirking at the sound of his laughter. "Pot, kettle, black, my dear."
