Lee decided to ignore all the shelving and sorting to sit and read. He hadn't really done that in awhile and he thought it might be a good way to clear his head and relax.

Relaxing was productive, dammit.

"I could make friends with a ninja too," Lee said. "And counter you."

Adah eyed the Eel carefully; he was playing pretty hardcore this afternoon. She liked that.

She'd like it even better if she could come up with something that wasn't arming her ninja with viruses to weaken his ninja or simply seducing his ninja into betraying him, thus giving her two ninjas.

So, instead, she just went with a reminder.

"Or," she said, "you could just tell me."

"But, now I have a ninja friend," Lee said. "And he might have a ninja weapon. And wear a ninja mask."

"Okay, well, if he's a male ninja," Adah decided, "then my theory of seducing him to my side will be even easier. Then I'll have two ninjas, one with a weapon and a mask."

All right, now he was laughing. "Underhanded tactics!"

"Oh, and a mask isn't underhanded!" Adah herself, while trying exceptionally hard to appeared shocked...shocked! that he would accuse her of such nefarious plotting, was grinning quite a lot, smirking at the sound of his laughter. "Pot, kettle, black, my dear."

"A mask is part of the ninja uniform!" Lee insisted. "Seducing one isn't!"

"And I'll bet," Adah said with a lift of her chin and a slightly beaming grin, "underhanded or not, my seducing tactics are even more effective than your mask angle."

"Yes, but your seducing tactics would make me said," he said and pulled a sad face.

Adah promptly mocked his sad face with one of her own. "That sadness," she reminded him through her pout, "is easily avoidable, you know."

"So, what's more important?" Both Adah's head and eyebrows quirked a little. "Your happiness or your pride?"

"You can't pick both," Adah told him. "You either tell me, or it's a race for ninja affections."

"There were no rules imposed on what I could pick," he said, grinning smugly.

"True," Adah admitted, wrinkling her nose at the Eel for a moment, not sure whether to feel impressed with his stubbornness or get annoyed for stealing so much of her schtick. "But, all the same, if you don't tell me, I'll seek my revenge."

"What if I told you I was thinking of absolutely nothing?" Lee asked.

"Then I'd be extremely disappointed," Adah said, "because earlier you said you might be thinking about me. Also, I probably wouldn't believe you for a second."

She paused.

"Actually, no. That is more believable, that nothing would be working through that thick skull of yours, so nevermind."

And, wouldn't it figure, she was right back to the same look she'd given him at the start of all this.

"I know you're not telling me what you were thinking about just to drive me insane, Eel."

"I wasn't thinking about anything important," he admitted with a grin. "Just food, mostly. I was just teasing you."

"Where's that book about flowers?" Adah asked, wrinkling her nose again. "Let me see it, so I can have something to throw at you."

Adah let out a long, slow sigh, with a rueful shake of her head to match. "Fine; if that's how you're going to me, maybe I should just get going to work. The walk will be even harder than usual now, what with the heaviness of my broken heart over here."
