Library [04/14]

With finals approaching, Sam was looking forward to the possibility of having more company in the library than his usual visitors.

Then he opened the doors and found the library full of tiny sheep.

This was not how he wanted his week to begin.

For a moment, Sam was very, very tempted to throw a sheep at Peter.

"I'm closer to normal than you," Sam said. "At least when it comes to studying and school things."

"Sounds like a very skewed sample to me," Peter said, nodding sagely.

"Aren't you going to study at all for your finals? Or prepare in some way?"

"Yeah," Peter admitted. "But I'll try to have a life outside of that. In theory."

"In theory?" Sam asked.

"We could be attacked by bears again," Peter pointed out.

Sam laughed. "Just avoid them again, and you'll be fine."

"I'm surprised you guys escaped unscathed," Peter said. "Guess bears don't like the beach?"

"I guess not. Maybe they didn't want any sand in their fur," Sam said.

"Maybe no good fishing," Peter suggested.

"That too. I'd like to think that Dean and I would have managed to scare a bear away if one had shown up, but I don't know."

Peter drummed his fingers against the desk like he was uncertain about something. This attracted a herd of wee sheep who tried to cling on to him. Peter gave them pets, then finally said, "Dean was really flirting with Brooke?"

Sam frowned softly at that question, and sighed. "Dean flirts with everyone. Seriously. I mean, he was flirting with Dawn too. He doesn't mean anything by it. It's just how he normally acts around girls."

"Well if there's no brother boundary I guess I don't get one," Peter said.

"I'm sure it meant nothing. If he was single, it would be different, but he's got Meg," Sam pointed out. "He's...he's Dean. That's just the way he is."

"This is new for me," Peter admitted. He took another sip of coffee. "It's not like it ever came up with me and Nathan. I feel like I'm supposed to be offering to punch him out."

"You can if you want to," Sam offered. "I won't stop you as long as you limit it to one punch."

"Well now you're just ruining my fun," Peter said, deadpan.

"You can make it one really good punch?" Sam suggested. "Or you can trust me when I say it didn't mean anything."

"I'm not really mad," Peter admitted. He gave a wry smile. "Mostly I feel like I'm supposed to be mad."

"I don't know. I mean, I wasn't too mad. More embarrassed to be related to him," Sam said.

"Well you're an honorary Petrelli," Peter reminded him. "Whenever you feel like that you can just come over to our side of the family for a while."

"Consider me on your side of the family until further notice then," Sam said. "Is everything okay? With you and Brooke, I mean. Because if Dean's flirting messed with anything..."

"Nah," Peter assured him. "Heck, we haven't even talked since then. I just felt like maybe I was supposed to say something, or be pissed. I dunno. I'm still new at this."

"If it was anyone but Dean, I'd be right by your side, offering to hold the guy while you hit him," Sam said. "But if I were you, I wouldn't be pissed. I only know that Dean flirted with Brooke. Odds are, she didn't even flirt back."
