Applied Inventiontronics, Period 4 - Week 10

Glitch looked at the syllabus, then out at the class, and then back and forth again a few more times as synapses tried to rearrange it a little.

He wasn't even remotely near prepared to give that kind of lecture after last weekend.

"Well," he started, "I think all of you already know why you shouldn't be inventing weapons." It was possible, given one particular design he's seen, that he's overestimating at least one student in the classroom.

"So, instead of telling you all that, you can use the class time to work on your projects. I'll be going around and checking on you in case you need any help."

"Roomie," Anders says as he plunks himself down opposite Bridge and gives him the Puppydog Look of Doom. "No more going away."

"RIC didn't even leak coolant on your shoes while you were gone," says Anders, still with the wibble-lip. "He actually mostly sat there and looked at them all . . . sad. And so did I."

"No," admits Anders, "but there were a few moments there that I thought I was gonna. I was one of the people who helped get rid of those frakking statues."

Willow worked on her tea maker. Coffee was nice, but right now she was all about the tea.

It felt strange being back in class, but Andrew quickly remembered all the issues he was having with his design.

While he understood the basics of aerodynamics and how do to calculations for lift, he was totally floundering on applying all that to a flying suit.

He scrawled Familiar with the Mathematical Aerodynamic Description? Please help! on a sheet of paper and hung it on the front of his desk.

Surely someone in this class could help.

Glitch walked over to Andrew's desk, looked at the sign and then to him.

"Having trouble?"

Andrew frowned at his design sketches. "Nothing someone with a degree in Aerodynamic Engineering couldn't figure out."

He hoped.

And looking at the design.

And watching hooves fly and grass and bits of earth.

And looking at the design.

And hearing that pathetic death wail.

And really questioning if maybe Ino was right.

Sokka walked up to Glitch. "Okay, I still don't understand why we can't do weapons, but... How about an automatic toast maker? Does that sound like a good project?"

Glitch raised an eyebrow. "You can't do weapons because, well, first of all building it can become very dangerous very fast, especially when it's the first time you've invented something."

He blinked as his synapses failed to bring up any 'second of all' and went on to the next question. "And that sounds fine, the toast thing."

As he turned away, he grumbled to himself about how is was NOT the first time he'd invented something, and weapons were important.

Glitch tried very hard to not facepalm.

It didn't quite work out.

"They weren't inventions," he offered from behind his hand. "They were," he managed to get his hand away from his face and wave it around in some gesture or another, "something not an invention. And bad. And that 'not a weapon but used to hurt people' thing is a whole other lesson."

"They weren't used to hurt people," she said, very slowly. "They were monsters that did hurt people. You can't point at the angels and go 'see, weapons are bad.' Things like that are the reason I have weapons."

A.J. was actually, surprisingly, pretty far along on his page turning book stand...thing. It was kind of incredible how much time he had to work on it without Beauty around. He didn't have it with him for class, though, because he didn't think to bring it, so he was fiddling around with something to help him with the pace regulator...do-dad that might be incorporated later.

Doom - decked in green, but not due to any pointless holidays - was working on his boot thrusters. They were needed now more than ever since the thrusters in his armor were wrecked by Cable.

Today it was time to see if the power supply actually worked once it was fit into such a small space in the boots. He'd concern himself with turning the power into thrust next week.

Once he was prepared, he activated the supply and was pleased to hear a faint hum as the sole of the boot glowed.

This invention was progressing nicely.
