Applied Inventiontronics, Period 4 - Week 10

Glitch looked at the syllabus, then out at the class, and then back and forth again a few more times as synapses tried to rearrange it a little.

He wasn't even remotely near prepared to give that kind of lecture after last weekend.

"Well," he started, "I think all of you already know why you shouldn't be inventing weapons." It was possible, given one particular design he's seen, that he's overestimating at least one student in the classroom.

"So, instead of telling you all that, you can use the class time to work on your projects. I'll be going around and checking on you in case you need any help."

"Roomie," Anders says as he plunks himself down opposite Bridge and gives him the Puppydog Look of Doom. "No more going away."

"Anders!" Bridge's face lights up. "I've missed you, dude."

"RIC didn't even leak coolant on your shoes while you were gone," says Anders, still with the wibble-lip. "He actually mostly sat there and looked at them all . . . sad. And so did I."

"You didn't get taken too then," Bridge looks incredibly relieved at that.

"No," admits Anders, "but there were a few moments there that I thought I was gonna. I was one of the people who helped get rid of those frakking statues."

And, yeah, that's when Bridge reaches over and just glomps his best friend for all he's worth.

Anders? Would be glomping right back for all he's worth. "You scared me."

"Sorry," Bridge mutters. "I didn't *mean* to!" he adds defensively.

"Goof," Anders says affectionately. "I know you better than to think you'd do it on purpose."

"Yeah, there are easier ways of booking a vacation," Bridge tries to joke.

"Easier, and way less dangerous," Anders adds. "I'm thinking another staycation is looking really good sometime soon."

Bridge nods vigorously. "There is really nothing I would love more than to just stay in Fandom, seriously." Especially since, from his perspective, he was gone long enough to have missed graduation and the entire summer.

"I would chain you to something, but Xander would kill me," Anders says with a solemn nod.

Bridge's eyes go very very wide. "...For a lot of reasons," he squeaks. "Not the least of which is that he pretty much made me promise to come right back to his place after class."

"Well, tell him to chain you to something then!" Anders replies.

And coughs.

". . . but don't tell me about it afterward, okay?"

"Yeah, uh. No worries there."

"The best-friend TMI rule is a serious, serious thing," Anders intones.

"One which I solemnly uphold," Bridge nods.

"But which doesn't extend to you withholding details about how everything went in the past," Anders points out. "Like how long you were there and everything."

"Oh. Right. That." Bridge glances down at his desk. "Eight months, about?"

"How was it?" Anders asks gently. "Rough?"

"The first month wasn't so bad," Bridge says, oh-so-casually avoiding the question.

Anders knows his best friend, and he leans closer. "And the rest of it?" he prompts.

"Kinda sucked," he admits. The fact that he's also noticeably thinner is testament to that.

It is, yeah, but Anders hadn't wanted to push too hard on that subject; he figures it might be kind of touchy.

"My poor roomie," he says, frowning.
