Mac would have been reshelving books today.

That is to say, she would've been, were she not dodging rabid cleaning supplies.

In her opinion, dusters that move on their own are infinitely worse than the dust bunnies that made the mess in the first place.

She's hiding behind the desk with her coffee, but she is there.

Which was good. Because a certain Librarian was also hiding from the cleaning supplies.

Well, not hiding, really. Just a careful avoidance of anything chemical or pine smelling.

In his office.

River stopped by the library. It was saturday, but she didn't think that would matter to the librarian. It was also a day when she wouldn't be likely to meet certain library aides she should be avoiding.

She knocked lightly on the door to the office.

Looking up toward the door, he set some paperwork aside. It was still odd to use paper for such things.

"Come in."

River entered the room, stopping just past the door. She glanced around the room curiously.

That got him to sit just a hair straighter, head tilted to the side. "Can I help you, Miss Tam?" He asked.

"No," she said, then smiled. "But you asked me to visit."

He smiled back, faint, but not fake. "I did."

"Please?" He asked, gesturing to the seat across from his desk.

First she hesitated, then she moved slowly across the floor and sank down on the chair, watching him closely.

"Was there something you wished to speak about?" He asked, careful not to push or look too closely.

It wouldn't be polite.

She shook her head. "You suggested talking." Her eyes were still fixed on him.

"So I did." This would be easier if he had a subject to speak on. "Did you enjoy your break?"

Ah, that worked nicely.

"I went home to Serenity. We smuggled rabbits." Yes, she was aware that didn't answer his question.

The smuggling was no surprise, but... "Rabbits?"

"They breed quickly. Some planets lack lifestock." She tilted her head.

Of course. The logic worked perfectly but didn't come naturally to someone from the Core.

"All was well, then?"

"Yes." One could never predict the future though. "No Mexico trip?"

He shook his head, glancing down for a moment. "I am not exactly the type to go on such trips, Miss Tam."

"I thought you were exploring new possibilities in life," she replied.

"I am." Just slowly. And just a bit hesitantly. It was not as if he had much to speak with people about. Most of his conversations seemed to get awkward for the other person involved.

"Swimming can be enjoyable. Similar to dancing." No, that wasn't a smirk, really.

Ah, yes. He had been wondering when that would be brought up.

"I am certain it can be," He replied, so dry the room might need water now.

"Should try it sometimes." That could refer both to swimming and dancing.

"Perhaps when the weather turns warmer," He said, taking it as the swimming.

Because he didn't dance. It was terribly similar to fighting.

"Don't have to involve killing. Can express different emotions." River was talking about dancing now.
