Driver's Ed [Wednesday, Period Four]

The Danger Shop was set up to look like the outside parking lot of a high class European casino at night. There were a number of identical, sleek, gray cars parked near Bond.

"This is the Aston Martin DBS," he began, after the class, with the notable exception of the TA, had assembled, gesturing towards the nearest of the cars. "Handles well, with an excellent turn of speed. You'll be using them in your mid-term today.

"Now, shortly, a car will be passing through that road there, at very high speed, there will be a series of such cars at various intervals. Your task will be to take it in turn to follow a car, as closely as you're able, until the end of the sim. After you've finished the sim, you're free to go."

At that moment, a car came screeching down the road Bond had previously indicated.

"So, who's first?"

Jamie sat off to the side not really looking at the cars.

Amber stood around, waiting for her turn.

Sam was happy to see that the cars actually looked like they'd be comfortable for him.

Turtle sighed a little wistfully. This class was going to end up being very bad for her bank account once she turned sixteen, what with it making her feel for nicer cars.

Even if she did have a feeling that Jake would do something stupid like buying her some crappy used Volvo as a sweet sixteen present.

Jenny was possibly casting covetous looks at the beautiful, beautiful cars as she waited her turn.

Much better than those weetiny things.

"I'll go first, sir," Sulley volunteered and squeezed into the car. He took a deep breath and got ready to follow the car up ahead. He wondered if airbags would work considered the tight fit and it occurred to him that even if this wasn't real, it sure felt like it. Well, the anxiousness of driving so fast when he didn't know what he was doing felt real.

Amber tried to follow as closely as she could and she couldn't help but admire the car she was driving. Wondering how much it might cost, she gave it more gas, trying to catch up to the other car.

Marco was following the car, though he kept trying to push the speed up. And more up.

Sam was a little uncomfortable driving so fast, but the car handled so well that he was willing to push it to try to catch up.

Summer tried to follow as closely as possible and, surprisingly, didn't slam on the breaks every few seconds.

Turtle sucked in a deep breath, and then, as she let it out, she accelerated quickly and went to the chase, with the same sort of determination she would have were she in a courtroom right now. Which is to say a lot. Which is also to say that she was probably going to be very upset over the fact that she can't catch up.

Turtle Wexler did not do well with failure of any kind.

Alas, poor car. We knew it but a little time.
