Library [25/01]

Karal was late, and he bolted into the library from the stable, robes flying and dusty. He skittered to a stop behind the counter, got everything ready, then opened the library.

That done, he settled behind the counter and started checking in books. Why yes, he was trying to pretend he'd been completely on time.

He sighed and plucked it out, dropping it into the pile on his floor. "It was a feather duster. I don't know what got into him. Firecats," he glanced at Altra, who just looked smug, "don't usually do things like that." He shook his head. "Are you well, Evey?"

She shrugged. "It's been...well, it's been a long week. I'm fine as can be, I suppose. Did anything odd happen to you last weekend?"

Karal's smile faded. "It did, yes," he said, moving to stand closer to her. "To you as well?"

She nodded. "I'm still not sure how, though."

"How I don't know, but it's called Fandom Weirdness," which he knew was a singularly unhelpful description. "Things simply happen here, there's no rhyme nor reason to it. Not long after I arrived, I awoke in someone else's body, and they were in mine." He smiled encouragingly. "They always seem to right themselves, though."

"Not always," she said with a little smile. "I've found a couple of strange bits about this place that won't be changing any time soon, I think."

"You have?" he asked curiously. "May I ask what they are?"

"I look exactly like Luke Skywalker's mother," she said simply.

Karal's eyes went wide. "Oh," was his very articulate reply. "That's-- Glory."

"Yeah. That's who I was last weekend," she said, nodding. "She was a little different -- hair was darker, and longer, and she talked like an American. But yeah. Professor Skywalker told me. Does this happen often? This looking like other people thing?"

"You talked to Professor Skywalker." Bright flame. "It, I don't think it happens very often. Was he all right?"

"No," she said, shaking her head. "I mean yes? I mean...he was very different this weekend, when I was her? Which is why I had to ask. I've not talked to Luke yet, but he knows. They both said I looked like someone they know. Luke's little robot friend thing thought I was her. But I had no idea it was his mother. This place is insanity incarnate."

"Now that," Karal said with heartfelt agreement, "is absolutely true." He studied her for a moment. "Are you all right?"

Evey shrugged. "It's just so odd. I'm bewildered more than anything. And you? Are you all right after whatever happened last weekend?"

"For the most part, yes," he said, lifting one shoulder. "I'm simply pleased that it has passed."

"Did you turn into anyone's father?" she asked wryly.

"Thankfully, no. I was spared that. I turned into a knight. Sword, bow, skilled at riding and slaughter," he said neutrally. "I did find a naked bard in the woods, though."

Evey hid a smile. "Did you have armor? And was it shiny?"

"I had armour and chainmail and more weapons than any one person should every need." He gave her a rueful smile. "And a beard like a thicket."

"That sounds...very itchy," Evey said, wincing. "If it's any comfort at all, I'm almost positive there was a way to turn lights on in the dress I was wearing. It was a bit complicated."

She shook her head, smiling now. "And I was 'kidnapped' by some idiot clearly off his trolley. But at least there weren't any bards going starkers. He must've been very cold when you found him."

"You were kidnapped?" he asked, staring at her. "That's...I think I will not complain any more about my weekend." Karal nodded decisively. "And he very cold, freezing in fact. I gave him my shirt and made a fire, which helped some."

"You can hardly call it kidnapping," she said, rolling her eyes. "He was an idiot. If I'd been in my right mind, he wouldn't have gotten me, honestly. And at the very least, you sound like a kind knight. Though now I'm trying to picture you with a beard."

Karal hid his wince. "It was very bushy, out to here," he said, holding his hands in front of his face and avoiding the rest of what she'd said entirely. "There were rabbits living in it. And possibly squirrels."

"If that were true, at least you'd have constant companionship. And Altra could hunt them instead of feather dusters," she replied, lifting her gaze up to smile at Altra.

Karal laughed at that. "Very true," he said, while Altra gave Evey a sardonic look. :It was an annoying feather duster. And Karal needed something to else do.:
