Library [01/21]

Sam was doing his best to not think about the weekend as he went to open the library. He was working especially hard to not think about being in Dean's room the night before. There were certain things little brothers just didn't need to know about their big brothers.

He shook his head.

"I'm not using magic," he said. "I wouldn't."

Completely honest. He could lie if it needed to, but he hadn't found a reason to so far.

"Good. That's...good," Sam said, looking relieved as he came around the desk and led Liir back to the New Age-type section. That seemed like the best place to start. "What are you looking to hold memories for? Um, if you don't mind me asking, you don't have to answer that."

"My Inventiontronics assignment," he said matter-of-factly, "I'd like to make something to remember and hold memories for someone so that they can regain them if they're lost or taken."

"Wow. That sounds like a really nice project," Sam said. He tried not to think about having memories taken as they stopped by the books on crystals. That just sounded beyond bad. "Everything we've got on crystology is on these two shelves," he said, pointing to a fair number of books. "Some of them are on healing, which might not help. Or, they might, maybe, considering what you're working on."

"They're the only thing" I "some people have. There should be something to to protect them. I used to think nothing could take them, but Professor Ambrose informed me I was wrong."

"Sometimes people lose their memories when they get older," Sam said. "But I can imagine there are a lot more negative ways for it to happen."

"That's another thing," he said. "But what Professor Ambrose was saying was... rather negative."

He looked at the books curiously.

"Most things pick up on memory, but mostly it's the strongest memories that objects remember. Picking up on them is easy, but I'm hoping that a crystal can remember more and remember it more completely than just flashes and emotion."

"I suppose it doesn't do any good if the memories are scrambled or hard to understand," Sam said. "I didn't even think about how emotion would play into this. You've obviously given this idea a lot of thought."

He shook his head.

"It's simple enough. There has to be something between a murder left on a saber and the endless 'sitting' left on a couch. Something that would remember with someone. At least, that's the idea."

Then he turned to the books.

"I should be able to find something. Thank you."

He nodded to Sam.

"You're welcome," Sam replied. "If you need anything else, I'll be out at the desk."
