Amber sat down an an out of the way spot; a chair under the overhang of a large tree. It's not that she was hiding, per se, it was just that this was new. New school. New people. Slightly intimidating.

"Hiya!" Rikku said, bouncing over to the other girl. She happened to bounce a lot. "Uh. You okay?"

"Oh! Hi!" Amber stood and grinned. "I'm fine. New place and all. Hi!" she repeated. "I'm Amber Atkins."

"Oooooh, yeah, this place is kinda weird at first," Rikku said, nodding sympathetically. "Uh. I mean, it's weird later, too? But it's weird in a totally safe and not creepy kinda way. Just ... weird. And the people here are pretty awesome, so that helps. Oh! Hi! I'm Rikku. I don't have a second name or anything, though."

"To be honest, I just haven't met a whole lot of people yet," she replied in her deep twangy Minnesota accent. "I'm not worried about weird because where I'm from? Weird can sort of stand on its own two legs," she chuckled. "Nice to meet you, Rikku. I like your name."

"Oh! Thank you!" Rikku was back to bouncing again. "It's, uh, an Al Bhed name? Which you've probably never heard of. Which is totally okay, 'cause that's way better than going 'Oh, man, the Al Bhed? Aren't they those filthy heathen-types?' 'Cause that gets old fast. And ooooh, did you live on a ... uh. Hellmouth-thing? Dawn used to. So she's not really fazed by weird stuff, either. Weird here usually isn't dangerous, just ... uh. Weird. You know?"

She took a breath, after that. Because wow, did she need one. Newbie day made her even more hyper than usual.

The bouncing was cute and Amber wondered if there were gymnastics here but she was having a hard time keeping up with Rikku and what she was saying because it was all so new and her head was swimming with new information. "I've never heard of it, Rikku, sorry. But I do know what a heathen is. My daddy is a carnie. Left my ma and me and even though ma calls him worse names than a heathen? He's still just a dirty carnie. Ma always says 'Once a carnie, always a carnie'." She paused, raised her brows. "A... Hellmouth? Is that a name of a mountain?"

"I think someone else here is a carnie," she said, mulling it over. "He might know your dad. But, uh, probably not. I keep forgetting how big all of this is. And the Hellmouth thing is -- kinda creepy? I'm not sure I get it, I just know it has to do with weird stuff, but not the fun kind, the evil monster-y type. Probably not a great place to live, I gotta say. But it's okay, this place doesn't have one." Rikku blinked. "As far as I know, anyway."

Sometimes, she even confused herself.

"There are carnies here? Someone who might know my dad?" That was blowing her away. "Oh god, I can't tell my ma."

Monsters. Oh wow.

"We had a monster once in Mount Rose in the form of Gladys Leeman. She's an escaped convict and she's after me. The swan ate her baby so I can understand her wrath. She's just got to direct it elsewhere, know what I mean? People sure can be evil monsters," she nodded.

River was dancing around the crowd to no music but the sound of thoughts, and Cassandra followed her. She noticed a girl under a tree, and it didn't take mindreading to know what she was feeling. Spinning closer River stretched out a hand towards the new girl. "Dancing is compulsory," she said.

Cassandra is grinning silently as she spins by with River. She pauses just long enough to nod firmly at Amber in agreement with River's statement.

Dancing: compulsory and fun!

Grinning, cause how could she not? Amber took River's hand and came to her feet, already beginning to dance. "I love dancing!"

"Like you already," Cassandra told Amber seriously as she sways back and forth to the silent rhythm River seems to be hearing.

Amber was so feeling good right about now. New friends, dancing, this place must be so awesome. She did a few tap dance moves, and spun around. "Hi! I'm Amber Atkins!" She said to both of them, grinning wide.

"River Tam." She spun around agin, then bent backwards so that her hair touched the ground. "Welcome to Fandom."

Robin was glad it wasn't as cold as it had been yesterday, and his blue parka was enough to keep him comfy.

"Hi!" he waved to the new girl. Best to get the brain breaky out of the way.

Fortunately Robin was used to this sort of reaction. "Actually all frogs have names, just most of the time Humans don't know them because most frogs can't speak human languages he explained. Also I'm a Muppet frog. We're a little different."

"No! I don't get it! You're... you're talking! A Muppet frog? Like... on TV?" Amber's heart was thumping too hard in her chest and she waved her hand over his head to see if there were any attached strings.

Robin beamed. She'd heard of them! Yay! "Yes! Exactly like on TV! Have you heard of my uncle Kermit?" And nope, no strings.

"Kermit the frog? And... Fozzy? And... Animal? Those kinds of Muppets?" Amber looked around to make sure no one was making fun of her. Then she pinched herself.
