Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Amber was so feeling good right about now. New friends, dancing, this place must be so awesome. She did a few tap dance moves, and spun around. "Hi! I'm Amber Atkins!" She said to both of them, grinning wide.

"River Tam." She spun around agin, then bent backwards so that her hair touched the ground. "Welcome to Fandom."

"Cassandra," Cassandra offered as she precisely mirrored the moves Amber had just done.

"Oh my gosh, River, you are limber, and..." her eyes sort of bugged out as she watched Cassandra. "You can tap?" Amber did a few more moves, twirling two more times, trying to keep her eyes on Cassandra at the same time.

"Everyone has different talents." River now stretched tall.

"Is that what it's called?" Cassandra asked as she mirrored Amber again. Then she explained, "If you can do it, I can do it."

"Tap dancing," Amber nodded. "Uh-huh. But how?" She was very much impressed. "Are you a genius?"

River giggled and looked at Cassandra.

Cassandra blinked. "Um... I don't think so? I just..." she took a second to try to explain it, "I see how people move, and then I can do it."

"Oh uh-huh. Well in Mount Rose, Minnesota, you'd be a genius because oh my gosh that is an amazing talent," Amber declared as she stood in place, tap dancing.

River was spinning around in one place, arms oustretched. "Almost like flying a spaceship."

"But you already know how to 'tap dance'," Cassandra told Amber as she continued to follow along, learning how to do it herself.

"Oh yes, but this has taken me years of practice," excplained Amber. "A spaceship! That's funny!"

"I have one," River informed her. "Am a good pilot." She was still spinning.

Cassandra nodded in confirmation of River's statement before grinning at Amber, "Makes you a good teacher."

Wait. What? Amber faultered slightly in her yay!fun tap dancing and stared at both girls. "Seriously?"

River stopped spinning, her arms still outstretched. She grinned and nodded.

The problem with mimicking someone else's dancing is that when they falter, so do you. As her steps grow a bit awkward, Cassandra nods again, "Yep. Dancing with no gravity is fun."

[I can't spell today, shh..]

Amber blinked and wondered if these two girls were just having fun at her expense. They had seemed genuine. How could anyone own a spaceship? How could a teenager pilot a spaceship? How could you dance with no gravity. This was all so... TV-ish!

"I'm... I'm just a little bit confused?"

"I'll show you some day. It's in the junk yard. Built by squirrels." River tilted her head, looking a little concerned. "This is not an attempt to trick you."

"Fandom," Cassandra tried to explain solemnly, "Is a very weird place."

"Okay, okay, oh my gosh a lot to take in," she said. "Rikku told me it was weird, I just never expected-" Squirrels? Was it some kind of nutship? Like a mini something or other?

Amber looked at River. "Trick me? No, oh, no, I wouldn't think that. Okay, I did think that but not in a bad way." Cassandra's solemn tone worried her a little.

"Should I be expectin' weird things all the time?"

"Yes." There was only one obvious answer to that, after all.

"Most of it's not bad," Cassandra offered. "Just... weird."

"Well, I suppose it's not like I've never dealt with weird before. I did work in a morgue," she said, nodding a bit.
