Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

Well. This school definitely looked.... different, Richie decided. This was probably as tactful as he'd ever been in his life, and he was quite proud of himself. Of course, he reasoned, any school that hired someone with as little experience as he had had to have something odd going on.

So. Meeting students and coworkers. He wasn't the least bit intimidated. He just hoped no one laughed at his nametag. "Richard Tozier, Public Speaking"? Who was he kidding, he looked like a tool.

After saying hello to a few other members of the faculty, Fraser wandered over to someone he didn't recognize and said, "Good morning. Welcome to Fandom. Are you a new faculty member?"

Richie attempted to swallow his current mouthful of food, waving at the other man in a 'just one second, sorry' gesture. Finally gulping it down, he stuck his hand out for a shake. "I'm Rich Tozier, I'm teaching public relations. Are you a teacher too?"

"Not exactly," Fraser said, looking apologetic while shaking the offered hand. "I'm Constable Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and, lately, the head of school security. A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Tozier."

"Likewise. Head of security, wow," Richie said. "Are there a lot of security problems here?" The school didn't look outright dangerous to him, but, well--a castle? Seriously?

"It depends on what you think a security problem entails," Fraser told him, crossing his hands behind his back. "Generally speaking, no, there aren't a lot of security issues outside of the normal everyday things you'd encounter at any school."

He didn't quite want to launch into invasions and plagues just yet so he kept it light. "I've been here for two years and I'm still not tired of it."

Richie nodded. "That's a relief," he said, trying really hard to ignore the 'generally' in 'generally speaking'. "Two years, that's impressive. I hope I like it that much."

Richie may have inadvertently started speaking with a very slight Canadian accent. You don't spend your whole life doing imitations without it becoming second nature.

((OOC-- I'm not sure if Fraser has an accent (I think I remember him having one?), but even if he doesn't, Richie would definitely be bursting at the seams to start throwing out 'eh' and other comments from the second he heard "mountie".))

"It's an interesting place," Fraser agreed. "Very...different. Where are you from originally?"

[He does, yep! Not too heavy but definitely able to heard]

Richie's eyes went a little unfocused on the question. "Derry. Derry, Maine, but I've been in LA lately." Realizing the probable reason for the question, he facepalmed. "Shit, sorry, was I doing a Voice? I used to do impressions, at my old job, sometimes it just happens," he added with an apologetic grin.

At least he hadn't done the full out mountie Voice. He hoped.

"Quite all right," Fraser said, not thinking too much of the change at the present moment. "What sort of previous job did you have, if I may ask?"

Okay, good, he hadn't offended the head of security. "I was a DJ-- played some songs, did some comedy stuff, it was pretty sweet." With a slight shrug, he continued, "Creative differences and all that, ended up losing the show. But those who aren't doing teach, or something, so I'm here."

Creative differences. He liked that as a euphimism for 'memory loss, which my boss thinks was the result of a coke binge'. Sounded much better.

"And we're happy to have you," Fraser said with a nod. "Before coming here, I was previously in Chicago, acting as the Deputy Liaison Officer to the Canadian consulate. I didn't lose that position so to speak but I did find that I wanted a change. It was either go back to Canada and resume my previous duties as a Mountie or come down here. I chose the latter obviously and I haven't regretted. I hope it works out similarly for you as well. I can promise you won't be bored."

Richie nodded. "That's really encouraging, actually. This sounds like a great place." Checking his watch, Richie made a face. "I'm sorry to run out on you, but I need to figure out some stuff--like where I'm living. But I'll definitely see you around school and town."

((OOC-- Sorry, I'm getting kicked off the computer, didn't want to leave this hanging.))

"Have a pleasant rest of the day, Mr. Tozier," Fraser said with a smile. "I'll definitely be around."

[No worries! Bye!]
