Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[~~WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE.~~ OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

Juli was slightly off to one side, observing the proceedings, and still bemused that she was actually going to be teaching while she was stranded here.

Making her way around and noting the new faces, Aly didn't have a hard time finding the only new female teacher in the bunch.

You know, because she was a spy. Or something.

"Juli Mizrahi?" she asked, smiling.

There was a slight nod and a slightly rueful smile, as she offered one hand to shake, "Yes, that would be me. Pleasure to meet you."

"Pleasure's all mine," Aly replied, shaking her hand. "I'm Aly. I'm your 'teaching buddy' for the semester."

"I'm still not entirely sure how I wound up teaching here." Juli mused, "And not at the high school level, certainly. But any advice will most definitely be appreciated."

"There's been students who've just shown up here and not known how," Aly said thoughtfully. "But I haven't heard of teachers doing the same thing. Weird island this is. And obviously it expected you to come. Probably have a class set up and everything?"

"Apparently I'm teaching every Wednesday." Juli said, "And the topic isn't a problem, but the last thing I knew I was heading to Bormeo University to give a series of talks to several classes."

"Bormeo?" Aly asked curiously. "Where's that? In this world?"

"It's a prestigious scientific university." She said, "And no, definitely not on this planet. I'm not even sure what planet this is, but it doesn't seem to have been developed the usual way." For one thing, there was a lot of nature around this place.

"So, yes, not so much with high school," she agreed, flashing a grin. "What's the usual way for planets to be developed?"

Juli said, smiling, "Most planets are completely altered from what they start off as to better fit the needs of the Federation Galaxy before other development begins. And not everyone lives on a planet. We've got ships bigger than some of our planets."

Aly nodded slowly, looking intrigued. "...yes, I'm going to go with Fandom being very, very different. And that's before you get to the dinosaurs and magic and weetiny penguins."

Juli blinked, "I'm sorry? Magic?" She vaguely recognized the other two as long extinct animals, though the 'weetiny' was somewhat suspect.

Kabuto was on his way back to the dorms, having met his 'little brother' and deciding his 'social' quota had been filled. He nearly bumped into the unfamiliar teacher, but narrowly avoided it. "My apologies," he said, bowing his head slightly.

Juli waved him off, "It's understandable considering the area, don't worry about it."

Kabuto studied her for a moment. "Are you one of the new instructors?" he asked politely, all-over friendly though a little more...subdued than some of the other students.

"I'm teaching this semester, yes. Dr. Juli Mizrahi," she said, "And you are?"

Kabuto paused a moment, then replied, flipping his name to suit the customs of this area. "Kabuto Yakushi. It's nice to meet you. If I remember correctly ~~and of course I do~~, I'm taking a class from you."

"You're interested in the sciences then?" Juli asked, somewhat pleased to meet one of her students, "I hope you'll find it interesting." She certainly would - even if only because she wasn't used to working at a high school level.

"Yes...interested." Kabuto smirked at the understatement. "Most of my focus is on biology. I'm a medical ninja in my home world, so I've been studying the body's systems and general makeup for most of my life. A medical ninja needs to know how to take something apart, as well as put it back together."

"You can't create if you don't also know how to destroy it," Juli said, with a faint nod of approval. "My specialty is biological engineering."

Kabuto's smile brightened. "Then I have a feeling we'll get along well. That's what I was last doing back home with my Master." He just wasn't telling the whole story. Nobody needed to know it was human experimentation on people who were still living.

She eyed him, thinking about her class. "Are you any good at it?"

"I'm the best medical ninja there is, next to the leader of the village of Konoha: and she's many years my senior." Kabuto? Overconfident? Of course not.

"A boy genius, then?" Juli tapped her cheek thoughtfully, "Any experience in TA-ing?" It was a bit more reckless a decision than she liked to make, but there was only until Wednesday... and he knew her field.
