Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

Aly nodded slowly, looking intrigued. "...yes, I'm going to go with Fandom being very, very different. And that's before you get to the dinosaurs and magic and weetiny penguins."

Juli blinked, "I'm sorry? Magic?" She vaguely recognized the other two as long extinct animals, though the 'weetiny' was somewhat suspect.

Oh space people from the future and their confusion about magic. Aly always enjoyed this part.

"The island's a bit of a gateway between different worlds and realities," Aly explained. "Some of those realities rely on magic - whether inherited or taught - instead of science. Some rely on other skills."

"Parallel universes are a theory I'm familiar with," Juli said, thinking of the Gnosis, "but this seems rather extraordinary." Not that she wasn't going to really believe magic until she saw it. "It's said, did you know, that sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic."

Sam would like her. Both ages of Sam. Too bad she was off island now. "I've heard that," Aly agreed. "The theory's still different though, Most of the time."

"Which does make it harder to quantify and stick a label on it," Juli admitted, "but even science is like that. New discoveries overthrow the old and we're left to adjust."

Aly shook her head, looking amused. "I suppose now is the moment where I admit that I've never been much for theories of any sort. As long as it works and I know why it's not exploding in my face usually is enough for me."

She laughed softly at that, "Most people, it seems feel that way. Forgive me my tendency to theorize."
