Peter came in with coffee and donuts. "Hey Sam."

"Hey," Sam said. "You'd better be careful, or I'm really going to start to get used to you coming by."

"Hey, if you want me to share these with somebody else, just say the word," Peter replied, dangling the bag of donuts in front of Sam. He didn't dangle the coffee. No point in chancing a spill of precious caffiene.

"That's not what I meant," Sam said, trying to snatch the bag away from Peter.

"Ah!" Peter put the bag behind his back. "Now I doubt your sincerity."

Sam broke out a small bit of puppy eyes. "I just meant that if you don't come by sometime, it's going to throw my whole afternoon off."

"Hmm." Peter pretended to consider. "That vaguely sounds like sucking up. Okay, now I'll share."

He put the bag and coffee down onto the counter, grinning.

"I'm very good at sucking up," Sam said, taking the coffee and one of the donuts. "Thank you. I really am grateful to have you come by every week."

"I'm glad to come by," Peter said. He leaned against the counter. "So how was your weekend?"

"It was good. Really, really good," Sam said, leaning against the counter as well. "Can you keep a secret?"

"No, I tend to put everything I know up on billboards, particularly when it's about things relating to those I care about," Peter replied, dryly. Then he grinned. "What's up?"

Sam leaned in a little more, lowering his voice. "My dad talked to Dean and I yesterday. He's gonna propose to Principal Washburn for Christmas."

"Really? That's great!" Peter said, whispering as well. He looked at Sam, concerned. "This is great, right? You're for it?"

"Yeah, totally," Sam said, grinning. "I've never really had a mother-type person before. It's kind of exciting. If she says yes, of course."

"She'd be nuts not to," Peter said. "And mothers are good. I've always liked mine."

"I don't know, you've met my dad," Sam said. "And you are in no position to talk about what your own mother is like."

"You know somebody who knows her better?" Peter countered.

Sam had to shrug, and shake his head. "No, I guess I don't."

"My point stands," Peter said. "And I still say moms are great, even if you're not lucky enough to have mine."

"I think Dean and I will be almost as lucky," Sam said. "It's kind of weird thinking about my dad wanting to get married though."

"I can understand that," Peter said. He took a sip of his coffee. "I know someday Ma's going to want to find somebody, and when the time comes I hope I can give her the support she needs. But thinking of that right now? No way."

"That makes sense. It hasn't been that long for you guys," Sam said. "Honestly, even though it's been years for my dad, it still feels a little weird."

"How's Dean taking it?" Peter asked.

"He seemed pretty excited about it, although I think he's more looking forward to being related to the principal," Sam said.

Peter laughed. "Yeah, that would come in handy. 'course then again maybe that means she'd keep a closer eye on him. Make sure he sets a good example."
