Library: Friday [16.11]

Karal had slept. Sort of. Regardless, he was back at the library at sunrise.

He made himself sit down with a cup of tea while he waited for everyone to arrive.

Karal had dropped to sit next to Sam, Adah's notes (which he was itching to keep and read at length, but he wouldn't) and the book in the other. "And this is what they look like." He turned it around to show everyone. "Here," he flipped to another page, "and here."

"Let's make a few copies of those pages so that we can compare in the field, and head out ASAP, then," Peter said.

"I can help," Sam offered. "I have a little herb-picking experience. And I want to help."

"Right," Rodney said while studying the pictures. "That shouldn't be too hard to find." He looked over at Chris. "They're in the same place?"

Karal hopped up before Chris could answer. "I think we can all go," he said, then dashed off to the photocopier.

He returned, looking thoughtful, several minutes later and passed the copies out.

Chris studied the spot on the map where the crystal had landed. "It looks like it. Or near enough," he said. "I should be able to orb us to this exact spot. Save us a little time."

He looked up. "If no one objects to using a little more magic."

Luke chewed on his lower lip, then nodded. "Anything that fixes this faster."

"Given the circumstances, whatever helps us is a good thing. But," he held up a hand, "I won't be coming. I think that someone needs to locate the boat, just in case." In case what he wasn't specifying. This had to work. "I can take Trenor, and be much faster than anyone on foot."

"I can come with," Willow suggested. "That way you're not all on your lonesome. Plus if this turns out to require trying to wrangle samples into submission, I know how to do that without contaminating them."

Karal smiled and studied her for a minute, then nodded. Trenor could carry them both easily. "That sort of skill could be important." He nodded at the door. "Shall we?"

"Good luck," Willow said to the others as she went to go with Karal.

"Um, what's 'orbing'?" Rodney asked a little hesitantly after Karal and Willow had left.

"It's a... special form of teleportation," Chris explained. "It doesn't hurt or anything, but it might make you a little woozy."

He looked at how many people were left in the library and quietly hoped that he would be able to orb them all without too much trouble. It would be a strain, but he was determined.

Rikku snapped herself out of her fugue long enough to speak. "Do we need anything else? Weapons, magnifying glasses, something to put all the herbs in?"

The 'weapons' bit wasn't as crazy as it sounded; the last time she went herb-hunting in the preserve, it had been to take down a lichenthrope with holy water and weed killer.

"I think we'll be okay without that stuff," Chris said. "We need to get those herbs and figure out how to turn them into a cure fast. Before anyone else..." he trailed off, trying not to think about how Lana and Summer had looked that morning or how Adah had looked when Ed carried her out of the library.

"Everyone grab hands," he instructed, grabbing the two people closest to him. Once they had all done that, he said, "Okay, hold on tight," and orbed them to the preserve (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/2275313.html?style=mine).
