Karal had slept. Sort of. Regardless, he was back at the library at sunrise.

He made himself sit down with a cup of tea while he waited for everyone to arrive.

Zack chose one of the remaining aisles at random.

"I have a lighter and I'm not afraid to use it," he said to the books as he headed down it.

Karal stared after Zack, then spoke in the vague direction of the ceiling. "They mean well," he said to the air. "Please don't eat us. This is too important."

And then he headed for an aisle, Altra padding warily beside him.
