Library; Wednesday [ 11/14 ]

There was a pox upon the house of Fandom; a pox, a plague, an epidemic. Nurse's onset abates, noses run. Clearly, the source of it was something viral, and the toes on Adah's good foot curled, her fingers tingled, with the chance to find out something more. Bad enough she couldn't haunt the corners of the makeshift hospital in the town hall, gathering qualitative research from the victims afflicted while visions of petri dishes and a chance to get near a microscope danced in her head...may her left side be stricken as useless as her right should she allow herself to be constricted behind a desk when there was research to be done. A curse upon her, a pox, a plague, an epidemic. But not until she found something out first.

There was a sign on the desk, instructing anyone that truly needed assistance with anything to interrupt her at a station set up for researching, with the threat of awful, terrible things that would put the virus' work to shame if the interruption was deemed unworthy. It was getting books, people. How hard could it be? And hell hath no fury like an obsessive virologist scorned.

As soon as River entered the library a wave of thoughts of a medical nature struck her. She wasn't surprised, really, and slowly walked over to the table with the books, and the library aide studying them.

The headache wasn't getting any better, and neither was the cough, but River knew she had a good immune system and that this was just her body fighting off the attack that left others in the clinic. Mwhaa. She had heard the principal's announcement, but really, going to the town hall seemed unnecessary as they had enough patients to deal with anyway. And visiting the library, or more specifically the library aide, seemed a lot more important, even if she wasn't feeling too well.

She had brought a paper bag with a few mustard and cinnamon cookies, and she placed it on the table in front of Adah, before slumping down into a chair, turning her head away and coughing into her arm.

After checking in on Lana and Savannah, Chris showed up at the library with the Book of Shadows to settle in for some serious research. He had actually listened to radio last night and heard that someone thought whatever was going on might be magical in nature and he was determined to work that angle.

Passing closely by, Cable paused at the sight of the book. "Magic?" he asked, without preamble - not so much questioning why as trying to establish that for certain.

There had always been many ways to find answers - even if, for all intents and purposes, Cable missed Gareb's infonet connections more than anything right now.

But data gathered from the clinic, where he would return several times during the day (and night) weren't going to grant him the solutions he was looking for. It was with this in mind that he settled in the library, chasing leads on magic-- and history, his old friend.

And, perhaps, keeping an eye on other researchers.

With the problem still very much unknown but for the broadest strokes, teamwork was going to end up being imperative.

Rikku was surprised to see her boss in the library. "Hi," she said softly. "You, uh, you here looking, too?"

See, she could still ask stupid questions.

Naomi wanted to see if she could help find out what was causing this virus so later in the morning she came by the library to help research.

Research. Research was good. Research was much more comforting than constructing projected infection timelines based on the radio reports.

Mmm...research.

Of course Hermione was there. She'd brought several books regarding healing and such with her, even if they were a couple of years out of date for 1996. Look, you never knew when you could find something useful, and there were other books here to look through.

"Why do we not have full-force anti-sickness spells?" Willow asked Hermione. From one geeky witch to another, this sufficed as "Hi."

Rikku wasn't surprised at all to see her roommate amidst the sea of books. "Hey," she said softly. "Did, uh, did you find anything?"

After spending the morning in town hall, Karal headed down to the library. He knew little about illnesses and only slightly more about magic, but he did know how to find knowledge he didn't have.

After a moment's thought, he chose some books off the shelves, found a seat at the tables, and began working through them.

Willow was a girl with a mission. She couldn't get the internet up and running, but she did have information that she'd stored on her own computer.

Also she had the desire to see if she could hack her way past whatever it was that was blocking the island's net connection.

She couldn't, but that didn't mean she wouldn't try.

This looked like the place to go to help. There were lots of books, with lots of words, and his reading still wasn't all that great. But he wanted to help.

Sokka looked around at people. "Before we hit the books -- have we found the monkey yet?"

After spending the morning at the hospital, Isabel turned up at the library and pulled out a few of the books on the history of Fandom. She started to read through to see if she could find anything similar. Unfortunately for some reason the words kept blurring on the page.

Wyatt took a short break from the clinic in the afternoon and started looking through the books, trying to find something to explain what was going on.

Peter wasn't used to this. It was a Fandom Thing that he couldn't punch. Well, unless he got his hands on some Pym Particles and went inside all of the sick people and fought all the germs or whatever that way, but that was ludicrous and not worth thinking about any further. Especially since Fandom was closed off so he couldn't get an emergency shipment.

So it was time to attack things the way that came less naturally to him. It was time to join the research team. He assumed it was the group of people over there with all the books.

Like a moth to a flame, Sam was drawn to the research group, trying to find more useful information after coming up blank on Monday. If nothing else, it distracted him from thinking about how Dawn wasn't getting any better.

Jack walked in, a mild headache causing his frown to deepen. He gave Adah a headnod.

After her first period class, Molly went to the library to see if Karal was there. She wanted to make sure he was taking care of himself and not getting sick. She didn't see him there since he wouldn't be there until later, but she realized that the other researchers might need some checking on as well.

Looking around, Molly decided that Adah appeared to have a proprietary air today and went over to speak to her. "Hi. Umm, this may sound a little strange, but it's all I can think to offer. I don't have the attention span for research, but I can run errands and fetch stuff so that you guys don't have to and I know that food and drink isn't normally allowed, but I was thinking this is special circumstances and I was hoping that I could go and get coffee or tea or whatever for you all and maybe some food since I know people forget to eat. They need to remember to take care of themselves though and I'd just like to make it easier for them-- you-- to do that." She finally stopped talking and gave Adah a hopeful grin.

With a growing sense of unease, Rikku headed to the library, still concerned about last night's radio and this morning's class. This was ...

She stopped short when she saw the crowd of people researching. Somehow? That was the moment that made it all real. This was happening. Something huge was going on and this was serious and ...

"C-can I help?" she asked uncertainly. "I ... know some sciencey stuff. I mean. I ..."

Have to do something.
