Library; Wednesday [ 11/14 ]

There was a pox upon the house of Fandom; a pox, a plague, an epidemic. Nurse's onset abates, noses run. Clearly, the source of it was something viral, and the toes on Adah's good foot curled, her fingers tingled, with the chance to find out something more. Bad enough she couldn't haunt the corners of the makeshift hospital in the town hall, gathering qualitative research from the victims afflicted while visions of petri dishes and a chance to get near a microscope danced in her head...may her left side be stricken as useless as her right should she allow herself to be constricted behind a desk when there was research to be done. A curse upon her, a pox, a plague, an epidemic. But not until she found something out first.

There was a sign on the desk, instructing anyone that truly needed assistance with anything to interrupt her at a station set up for researching, with the threat of awful, terrible things that would put the virus' work to shame if the interruption was deemed unworthy. It was getting books, people. How hard could it be? And hell hath no fury like an obsessive virologist scorned.

"Tired. Scared." He rubbed his forehead. "Hoping very much to find something in all these books."

"Me too," Sam said. "Very, very much. There's too many people getting sick, and sicker."

"There were still more coming in this morning," he said quietly. "The radio last night, it said the sickness was magical in origin. Have you found anything?"
likethegun: (i'm looking up at you)

"Nothing," Sam said, sounding frustrated. "The little that I've been able to find about any kind of magical disease doesn't match what's going on here at all. How about you?"

"Nothing." He laughed with no humour. "Right now, in my world, there are storms of magic that warp animals and plants into monsters. I thought, I thought maybe it could be something like that, something that changed a normal sickness, but I can find no mention of anything like that in any of these books."

"That's something I didn't think of. That might have explained it," Sam replied. "I've been trying to see if any of the symptoms match up to something besides the flu, but there's just nothing."

"I know nothing of sicknesses or healing, and very little of magic, but it was something that seemed familiar. I never thought to look for illnesses which it might match," he said, sticking his elbow on the desk. "There's so many things it good be, or a combination of things."

"I don't want to think about it being a combination. That would mean it'd need a combination of medicines to make it go away."

"Or magics or someone to stand on one foot under the full moon smeared in rabbit grease, chanting sea shanties. It all seems as likely to work at this point." He rubbed the bridge of his nose and laughed weakly. "Sorry."

Sam smirked softly. "You have nothing to be sorry about. You sound as frustrated by all of this as I am."

"I'm not good at not being able to find the answer," he admitted. "Of course I'm usually looking for something I understand. Frustrated would cover it, I think."

"Do you know a lot of people who are sick?" Sam asked.

"By now, I feel like I know everyone who's sick," he said, shaking his head. "But yes. Aravis, my roommate, I took her in this morning, a number of people I know from class...Oh." He looked up at Sam, eyes wide. "Dawn."

Sam nodded softly at the mention of Dawn. "She's been sick all week."

"I'm sorry," he said softly, going to rest a comforting hand on his shoulder. "I've seen her, of course, but I didn't think until just now...How are you holding up?"

"I'd be better if she wasn't getting worse," Sam said. "And if these books were any help at all."

Karal scrubbed his hands across his face.. "So we keep looking," he said firmly. "We don't stop. There will be an answer, all we have to do is find it."
likethegun: (i'm looking up at you)

"We...yes," Sam said resolutely. "There has to be an answer here somewhere."
